200 Versions of Me

This is my 200th post in this blog that I have come to for the past six years. I have always said it was my outlet from my life. My go to place, my sanctuary. Fashion has always been my sanctuary, my creative space to express who I am. I always day dreamed about outfits and colors and how to translate what I see in my head onto the fabrics of my clothes. In another life, I wanted to be a fashion designer, every girl dreams about doing something amazingly creative when they are younger, I have always felt the creative spirit and its expression has always been in the way I dress, what I choose to be when I step out the door for that day. My style has always been eclectic and whimsical  and completely me. I always chose a different path than the one chosen by others. That was the original plan for this blog. To show the style that was completely me. I am slowly finding that again. Along the way, I forgot that my style was my style. I am not trying to be anyone else but me. I’m sure others have opinions. But I realized that those who normally have strong opinions about you generally do not know who you are at all. They judge a facade that they think they know.

Success lies in knowing yourself, your style, your way, essentially your path. Sometimes we venture out of our own paths in search for something else for ourselves only to eventually find our way back to our original route. This year has been another journey back to my original trajectory. In school, I have always loved and adored my culture, as a child my greatest influence in fashion and taste is my mother and my family, I love what I love because of them.

I know this blog is not what it use to be when I first began. At one point, it was cool to be a fashion blogger and I wanted to somehow break through in that niche. Now everyone and their mother  is  blogger and overnight sensation blogging is a thing of the past and fashion has been blah lately, at least for myself.

So to celebrate 200 posts of blogging, I will be posting my shoe collection everyday for the next year. What’s a blog about shoes, without truly posting, the shoes that make the outfits.

For now I leave you with some of my favorite outfits from the years, I have been blogging. They are oldies but goodies.

Thanks again for reading. Please enjoy these pictures they have been my favorites.

XOXO,

Michelle

Of Dreams and Celebrations

celebrations2

This year marks the fifth anniversary of this blog. Five  years of hard work and dedication and even if the successes are far and few between, this has been the creative outlet for my dreams. I have loved fashion all my life and this blog has been the space where I allow my dreams to take flight.

When I was younger I adored Dr. Suess books and always loved the messages woven in his words. One quote sticks out to me:

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose”

When I started this blog five years ago, I made a conscious choice to finally work on my dreams after letting others brings my dreams down. This is my dreams materialize and even though this blog is not where I would like it to be.  This is my blog, a work in progress, an attempt to follow the path I always wanted to carve myself. I tried and gave it my best and it is worth every moment I’ve put to it.

For those of you, who have followed along in my journey and have been supportive of my dreams. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for being great friends and for helping me slowly realize this dream.

Romantic: Lace and Satin

romaticlace

The flowers are blooming and the birds are chirping. It’s definitely almost Spring here in the tropics. And we all know what that means, love, love is definitely in the air. It’s a time of renewing promises, renewing goals, and renewing commitments. Nature is doing this and so are people.

romanticlace1

I’ve always adored the look of these yellow flowers sprinkled on the ground in Febraury in Hawaii. They always seems to put a smile on my face, it reminds me that nature is getting the air ready for love.

While Febraury marks the last month of winter and is often a time to celebrate love, one of my favorite combinations for a dinner night out with the love of my life is satin and lace. This Spring’s collections  celebrate sheer fabrics and layers with lace and chiffon.

romanticlace5

In this outfit, I played with satin and lace layers for a romantic date night outfit using the concept of undergarments as outerwear. Here, I layered a satin camisole underneath this lace shell and paired it with a lacey A-line skirt. This look can be achieve by layering undergarments underneath or over tops.

All Lined Up

Hello Everyone,

I’ve been unearthing pieces from my old closet lately. I adore this dress mainly because it plays with stripes in unexpected ways.  I love the contrast of thin and thick stripes throughout the dress breaking the monotony.

I’m completely adoring this quilted Love bag from Rebecca Minkoff. It’s been the bag of choice lately. It’s a perfect bag for causal outfits and it nicely pairs with dressier outfits. It’s a great all around bag.

A New Chapter Begins…

new-years

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had an amazing New Year’s Eve and you had an opportunity to spend it people that you care about and love. A New Year always promises a clean slate and the promise of a new beginning full of opportunities. I personally cannot wait to get this year started on the blog.

I’ve officially spent the first couple of days of the new year cleaning out my old room. So many nostalgic memories come with cleaning out an old space. I wanted to start the year right with a clean slate. Some pieces will be thrown away, others will be donated and sold and a few pieces will find a new home at our apartment.

As the New Year begins, its nice to set some goals as resolutions often fall on the wayside. Here’s a few of mine.

  1. Enjoy Life. Taking the time to be grateful for the things we already have and the things that matter: family, great friends, and the little things in between.
  2. Be Healthy.  Focusing on eating right and healthy, taking time to exercise, as well as overall well being.
  3. Creativity is Key. Creating and being creative has been an integral part of my life and work ethnic. I would like to put more effort in creating a better creative space for myself.

Let’s have an amazing year full of gratefulness, laughter, family and friends. Put great effort into making 2017 the best year ever for you and for me.  Cheers!

XOXO,

Michelle

The year is winding down with family and friends coming home, family gatherings, lots of food and drinks, and time to reflect on another amazing year of life. Whether this year was a challenge for you or an amazing one, take time to reflect and grow.  It is officially two days until the end of the year, let us all start the new year with goals not resolutions.  But regardless of what you plan do as the year ends, always remember to keep your love ones close, enjoy every moment with them, and to celebrate life.  Let’s take the last few days to celebrate renewal, hope, and inspiration in 2017.

So pick out an outfit that will like you shine. Wear fringe, a flattering LBD, a lacy top, something velvet or a bottom with sparkling sequins and welcome the new year with some fireworks.

Secrets to Shopping for Christian Louboutin and Other Luxury Shoes

Michelle_SandIsland-23

I guess it’s about time I share my methods in acquiring the shoes that I have in my shoe collection. I’ve been an avid shoe collector since high school and I’m going to be candid with you about the things that I have learn throughout the years. I am one of those people that never shop outside of my means. Let’s keep this real, I do not make a ton of money to blog, the reality is this blog has been a work in progress and the market is flooded with people who have their own style and want to share it with the world. I have a REAL career and I have an affinity to wearing expensive shoes.  I know that this blog is called A Pair of Shoes for Everyday. I have a lot of shoes but I do not have a pair for every day of the year nor do I have room for them. The blog name alludes to the fact that I have pairs of shoes that are used a lot in my wardrobe and therefore they are worth the investment I put into them.

So how exactly do I go about purchasing these shoes. I make a shoe list of my favorite shoes styles on the runway that season. Next, I go through my shoe wardrobe first to find shoes that I already fit current trends.  I look for styles that will last a few seasons, have very classic silhouettes and fit my personal style for example spikes and industrial details.

I  visit stores and boutiques that carry the shoes that are on my wish list. I try on a few styles, checking for fit, noting the pitch, and the comfort of the shoe. This is important because you have to be relatively comfortable in the shoes that you are in. Some pairs of shoes no matter how sexy or gorgeous they maybe on other people may not be the pair for you.  Then the waiting game begins.

Shoe seasons are quarterly and shoe sales are bi-annual. Sales tend to be from June to August and from November to December. It’s important to get to know associates at the boutiques in your area and establish a rapport with them. These associates will give you a heads up on what styles will go on sale at the end of the season and when special events happen in store. Retailers like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and other luxury retail stores have the tendency to have sales during this time. And stores tend to drop prices the later you go, always fight the need to purchase at the beginning of the sale as prices drop often. If you wait long enough and if the shoe is still there, prices will drop to a price point that is easier on the pocketbook. I have found several pairs of shoes what went well over a $1000 and bought them for a fifth of that price but you have to be willing to wait it out.

Sometimes, I check online discount websites: The Outnet, Barney’s Warehouse, Off Saks 5th Avenue, etc. I also scour Ebay and consignment shops (The Real Real, Yoogi’s Closet, etc.)  on the styles that I would like to add to my collection. Always ask the seller questions and read up on the shoe brands and authenticity. There are great people out there who have created resources that you can use to figure out authenticity or ask about authenticity. I personally use the Purse Blog Purse Forum . When in doubt always find a second opinion, there are authentication places out there that can help you authenticate a shoe for a small fee. The great thing about shopping with consignment shops, they have an authenticity expert in house that check the items they sell.  silklace4a

On top of researching and doing some ground work, I also have a separate account for shoe purchases. The real goal is to get the shoe you want for a price that is reasonable for your budget. I always set a price point for shoes that I want to purchase. Truthfully,  I’ve have only bought one pair of designer shoes full price and they were for my wedding day. I do not shop for shoes impulsively, it’s too big of an investment and designer shoes will always go on sale or can always be found for less than market value if your are willing to wait.

Thanks so much for making it through this long blog post. I wanted to make sure I gave you enough tips on how to shop for luxury shoes. If you have any questions or additional tips please feel free to comment and let me know.

XOXO,

Michelle

Passing Through The New South Shore Market

ssm

A couple of weeks ago I went to check out South Shore Market. It’s a space that’s celebrates the local boutiques and brands in Hawaii with an organic and industrial space. I completely adored the hanging light bulbs and the vertical garden.

The space allows to sitting and chatting and enjoying the space with beautiful lighting and local favorite stores like Eden in Love.

Even an interactive mural to snap fun photos with.

I decided to pass through and walk through all the cool shops that promot local designers and small businesses. If you haven’t walked through yet take the time to stroll through and enjoy the space.

Origami and Gemstones

Lately, I’ve been inspired to play with the pieces that are in my closet and use them in unexpected ways. This top was a end of summer purchase that is perfect year round.

rumi1

The blouse reminds me of origami that  you can fold  and transform it into something beautiful. It’s a versatile piece that can be thrown over a shift dress, a pair of pants or skirt. I like that it’s great for layering for cooler weather but perfect for spring and the summer.

rumi2

I like the way it looks backwards with the high neckline and the cinch at the waist to create a structured kimono look over a gemstone colored skirt.
