2017 Shoe Additions

img_5541

Hey Everyone,

This year’s Shoe Collections Additions were well thought out and curated. As you all know, at the beginning of this year, I decided to stop shopping for clothes and to be mindful of what I purchase in the clothing department. With that said, in this year’s shoe shopping, I tried to stick with as many wishlist items for this year and past years as possible.   As a result, this year, I did not purchase any shoes that I did not feel was well made, I kept to my wish list for the most part, and I was good with sticking to my rule of never paying for price for shoes.  I will show you the shoes in order of purchase.

Alexander Wang Studded Antonias in Clay and Black [EU 35]

I’ve been wanting this pair for years. It is one of Alexander Wang’s simplest styles and with the studded detail, they have a bit of edge and modern take on a simple sandal. This shoe was one my wish list a few years ago.

img_5417.jpg

Balenciaga Glove Sandal in White [EU 35]

I’ve been loving these shoes since 2013 and when Alexander Wang announced that he was leaving as Creative Director of the fashion house, I knew that this style would be harder and harder to find. I initially wanted a red or a black shoe but the color combinations were quick to sell out. In March, when I went into the boutique one of the Sales Associates told me that this style was going to be discontinued. Initially, I put the Aqua blue version on hold when it went on sale at the boutique and completely missed out on the pair because it quickly sold out. In May, while perusing MyTheresa.com, I found a white version in 35’s. It was not black or red but it is still a great color that I’ll be able to match with many  different pieces in my closet.

 img_5462

Christian Louboutin Madame Menodo in Multi Color Print [EU 34.5]

I tried this pair on last year when it first came out in this color way. I tried it on a whim while talking to my Sales Associate at Neiman’s. It was just a fun day trying on shoes and I was not really thinking that I would like the pair. When I tried it on I instantly fell in love with the uniqueness of the pair and the details of the shoe. It is definitely a conversation starter and a stand out pair. I waited until the price of the shoe dropped to a reasonable price in Last Call before pulling the trigger.

 img_5464

Sophia Webster Calico in Nude [EU 35]

I am a new fan of Sophia Webster shoes. Her designs are very avande garde and have a lot of personality. While other styles may not be for me, the Calico shoe is very reminiscent of my love for nature inspired shoes with its leather sculpted flowers. I love the dainty look of this shoe and its perfect for Spring, Summer, and weddings. I opted for a more neutral color for versatility and seasonal staying power.

 img_5519

Valentino Rockstud Ballet Flats in Pink and Nude Trim [EU 35]

I have been a big fan of the Valentino Rockstud family for years. I know they come in different colors depending on the season. I found these new ballet flats in the ending of September and the beginning of October. The mauve color was closer to a neutral and the patent leather was said to be more durable than the matte leather versions. The shoe is still a little stiff and I realized that Valentinos run big to size. These 35’s fit more like a 35.5. I suggest sizing down for this particular style just because they run bigger and the toe box area is wider than normal. I have a quick fix for that and I’ll share it with you in an upcoming post.

 img_5456

Chloe Kingsley Leather platform Sandal in Bordeaux [EU 35]

I have admired Chloe shoes for years but have never owned a pair of tried on a pair until I saw these Kingsley Leather Platforms. They are extremely comfortable and light. I also absolutely adore the bordeaux color of the pair.

 img_5453

Saint Laurent Patent Leather Tribute Sandals in Cream [EU 34]

I must have tried on these shoes multiple times in the past five years and it has been on my wish list for the past six years. Because of my size and its popularity, it has been difficult for me to get this shoe. I wanted it in black, nude, or a textured color. When I saw these in pristine condition on TheRealReal.com for a very reasonable price within my price point, I decided to get it. I was thoroughly surprised by the preloved quality of this pair of shoes. The patent leather was still taut and not stretched out, the shoe was already resoled. After inspecting the shoe, there were no scuffs of marks. The emblem of the shoe was not rubbed off in the insole.

Thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post. What were some of your 2017 shoe additions. Let me know if in the comments below.

XOXO,

Michelle

Romantic: Lace and Satin

romaticlace

The flowers are blooming and the birds are chirping. It’s definitely almost Spring here in the tropics. And we all know what that means, love, love is definitely in the air. It’s a time of renewing promises, renewing goals, and renewing commitments. Nature is doing this and so are people.

romanticlace1

I’ve always adored the look of these yellow flowers sprinkled on the ground in Febraury in Hawaii. They always seems to put a smile on my face, it reminds me that nature is getting the air ready for love.

While Febraury marks the last month of winter and is often a time to celebrate love, one of my favorite combinations for a dinner night out with the love of my life is satin and lace. This Spring’s collections  celebrate sheer fabrics and layers with lace and chiffon.

romanticlace5

In this outfit, I played with satin and lace layers for a romantic date night outfit using the concept of undergarments as outerwear. Here, I layered a satin camisole underneath this lace shell and paired it with a lacey A-line skirt. This look can be achieve by layering undergarments underneath or over tops.

A New Chapter Begins…

new-years

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had an amazing New Year’s Eve and you had an opportunity to spend it people that you care about and love. A New Year always promises a clean slate and the promise of a new beginning full of opportunities. I personally cannot wait to get this year started on the blog.

I’ve officially spent the first couple of days of the new year cleaning out my old room. So many nostalgic memories come with cleaning out an old space. I wanted to start the year right with a clean slate. Some pieces will be thrown away, others will be donated and sold and a few pieces will find a new home at our apartment.

As the New Year begins, its nice to set some goals as resolutions often fall on the wayside. Here’s a few of mine.

  1. Enjoy Life. Taking the time to be grateful for the things we already have and the things that matter: family, great friends, and the little things in between.
  2. Be Healthy.  Focusing on eating right and healthy, taking time to exercise, as well as overall well being.
  3. Creativity is Key. Creating and being creative has been an integral part of my life and work ethnic. I would like to put more effort in creating a better creative space for myself.

Let’s have an amazing year full of gratefulness, laughter, family and friends. Put great effort into making 2017 the best year ever for you and for me.  Cheers!

XOXO,

Michelle

Secrets to Shopping for Christian Louboutin and Other Luxury Shoes

Michelle_SandIsland-23

I guess it’s about time I share my methods in acquiring the shoes that I have in my shoe collection. I’ve been an avid shoe collector since high school and I’m going to be candid with you about the things that I have learn throughout the years. I am one of those people that never shop outside of my means. Let’s keep this real, I do not make a ton of money to blog, the reality is this blog has been a work in progress and the market is flooded with people who have their own style and want to share it with the world. I have a REAL career and I have an affinity to wearing expensive shoes.  I know that this blog is called A Pair of Shoes for Everyday. I have a lot of shoes but I do not have a pair for every day of the year nor do I have room for them. The blog name alludes to the fact that I have pairs of shoes that are used a lot in my wardrobe and therefore they are worth the investment I put into them.

So how exactly do I go about purchasing these shoes. I make a shoe list of my favorite shoes styles on the runway that season. Next, I go through my shoe wardrobe first to find shoes that I already fit current trends.  I look for styles that will last a few seasons, have very classic silhouettes and fit my personal style for example spikes and industrial details.

I  visit stores and boutiques that carry the shoes that are on my wish list. I try on a few styles, checking for fit, noting the pitch, and the comfort of the shoe. This is important because you have to be relatively comfortable in the shoes that you are in. Some pairs of shoes no matter how sexy or gorgeous they maybe on other people may not be the pair for you.  Then the waiting game begins.

Shoe seasons are quarterly and shoe sales are bi-annual. Sales tend to be from June to August and from November to December. It’s important to get to know associates at the boutiques in your area and establish a rapport with them. These associates will give you a heads up on what styles will go on sale at the end of the season and when special events happen in store. Retailers like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and other luxury retail stores have the tendency to have sales during this time. And stores tend to drop prices the later you go, always fight the need to purchase at the beginning of the sale as prices drop often. If you wait long enough and if the shoe is still there, prices will drop to a price point that is easier on the pocketbook. I have found several pairs of shoes what went well over a $1000 and bought them for a fifth of that price but you have to be willing to wait it out.

Sometimes, I check online discount websites: The Outnet, Barney’s Warehouse, Off Saks 5th Avenue, etc. I also scour Ebay and consignment shops (The Real Real, Yoogi’s Closet, etc.)  on the styles that I would like to add to my collection. Always ask the seller questions and read up on the shoe brands and authenticity. There are great people out there who have created resources that you can use to figure out authenticity or ask about authenticity. I personally use the Purse Blog Purse Forum . When in doubt always find a second opinion, there are authentication places out there that can help you authenticate a shoe for a small fee. The great thing about shopping with consignment shops, they have an authenticity expert in house that check the items they sell.  silklace4a

On top of researching and doing some ground work, I also have a separate account for shoe purchases. The real goal is to get the shoe you want for a price that is reasonable for your budget. I always set a price point for shoes that I want to purchase. Truthfully,  I’ve have only bought one pair of designer shoes full price and they were for my wedding day. I do not shop for shoes impulsively, it’s too big of an investment and designer shoes will always go on sale or can always be found for less than market value if your are willing to wait.

Thanks so much for making it through this long blog post. I wanted to make sure I gave you enough tips on how to shop for luxury shoes. If you have any questions or additional tips please feel free to comment and let me know.

XOXO,

Michelle

Metallic and Print

printsandsatin3

Hello All,

In the next few posts, I wanted to highlight a few of Hawaii’s Fashion Professionals in celebration of Honolulu Fashion Month.  Every November, Hawaii’s top designers, stylists and fashionistas gather to celebrate the talented people who make Hawaii Fashion what it is today. Please tune into my blog and read up on the amazing people who put Hawaii Fashion on the map.

Metallics are in this Fall. This shirt is from Ari South a locale designer who inspires a lot of Hawaii youth to reach for their dreams.  She’s one of Hawaii’s contestants who became a finalist on Project Runway. To highlight the shirt, I choose a subtle rose gold skirt and kept the shoes neutral.

Summer Plaid

For the summer, I like to brighten up the wardrobe color palette with oranges and brighter blue hues.  I love the way they play together on this plaid top. I’ve been playing with pieces from my closet recently, trying to figure out the best way to wear them with various combinations.

I’ve also been loving this Eartha Bag from Zac Posen. It’s been my bag of choice as of late with enough room for everything I need.

Encapsulate: Starting Out

The picture above is about 6 months old. A lot can happen in six months. It feels like life happened in fast forward. A new adventure started, so many goals came into fruition, new perspectives and a lot of changes. I’ll be sharing some of them with you in the next couple of posts.

While life was happening, my wardrobe for the past six months can be described as simplified. I’m so use to working with a closet full of clothes and I’m finding myself working with the few clothes I packed for the big move. No, I’m not  going anywhere different, just a few life changes, a new chapter and  a new apartment with very little space.

Space is definitely an issue, especially in Hawaii. It’s a small island with limited space and not a whole lot of room for houses and apartments. This got me thinking about Capsule Wardrobes and their utilitarian minimalism. I’ve been drawn to them lately and Pinterest is helping me figure it out somehow. I like the idea that less means more style.

It is said that the average women’s wardrobe about a hundred years ago consisted of about 35 pieces, 35 quality investment pieces. The advent of mass production and cheaper materials led to changes in our access to clothing and our wardrobes became larger and more cluttered. We live in such a surplus world that we never really think we can do so much with so little.  Surprisingly, I thought that 35 pieces was such a small amount until I started to see what I could do with it. It is simple math really, it’s something we learned in grade school, it’s all about combinations and permutations.

The French know it as the 5 piece wardrobe,  we call it the Capsule Wardrobe, some people want the feeling of a simplified life, others want to declutter and reorganize, while others want it to be packable for a journey.  Whatever the reason, it’s definitely something to consider.

Everyone is going to have their own reason. I’ve been intrigued by the idea for a long time, but the most important thing is to begin somewhere. Caroline from Un-Fancy did it in 2014.  I don’t want to re-invent the wheel so just click on the link above and you can check out her blog. Other bloggers have done it or are doing it. I’m not jumping on the bandwagon. I’m here just to share my story and my journey. I hope you join me.

So where do you begin exactly? First things first, don’t feel like you have to go through your whole closet and start donating everything you own. It’s not feasible, this is  a process that you just can’t jump into and go cold turkey, your just trying to live a clutter-free life filled with style so take your time and work through the process.

I CHALLENGE YOU to take this journey with me. Try it out and see where we all end up. We all need support groups and friends to help us along the way, why not do it together and create a space to share. I just want for you and me to help each other learn how to work with our wardrobes and live a stylish clutter free life.

I’ve starting this blog feature to hear from you and to share ideas as we go through this process.  I hope you join me in this journey.

XOXO,

Hello Everyone,

Another year older and another year wiser. I’ve learn so much about life and fashion in the past year and I hope that I can continue to share this journey with you.

This is the third installment of the collaboration with Vivid Foto.  This particular set is my favorite, it reminds me of old Hollywood Glamour and that true style, never goes out of style, we just update it often.

Victorian Elements

VictorianElements.JPG

Hello All,

I’m restyling old pieces that I found in my closet this past weekend. Every season before I go to purchase any must have styles, I peruse my closet to see what I already have that work with this season’s trends. I found this chiffon piece that I bought a while back. It has the puffy sleeves, ruffles and the ribbon tie closing at the neck, elements of the Victorian trend that was found on the runway for Spring season. I also found a mermaid skirt that reflects  early and late Victorian skirts styles. I kept  the colors dark in this outfit and I played with cloth textures and weaves.

Thanks for reading.
