Hello Everyone,

I hope you are having an amazing weekend spent with your family and friends. Recently, the weather in Hawaii is a bit cooler than usual.  It is times like this that I bring out the light sweaters and cardigans. They are my absolute favorite laying piece. I have several colors of lights sweaters and cardigans that are good to pair with pieces in my closet that are more neutral.

For this outfit, I started with a black and white base and added a pop of orange-red. I love to add brighter colors to black and white outfits.

Happy Monday Everyone,

I hope you are thoroughly enjoying the start of 2015. A couple of months ago, I decided to change up my hair since I started to get bored with growing it out. If you know me, I have the tendency to change up my hair every couple of months or so but in the past year, I have felt the need to grow it out and give it some length, a very stark difference from shorter cuts that I adore. The one thing that I do when I do not feel like cutting my hair is, to give it some color just to keep it interesting. I find that changing your hair is one way to do a mini make over without spending large amount of mula.

I wanted ombre hair a while back but since my hair was sporting a shorter style a couple of years ago the hair style was not conducive for ombre. I’m also a huge fan of peek-a-boo color. I wanted one of the other and I just could not get settled on a hair coloring style that I liked. I did do some research on Pinterest to find different options. I worked proposed the ideas to my stylist, Karin from M. Matoi Studio in Kakaako, Honolulu. Karin has been my stylist for years and she always does an amazing job with my hair no matter what challenge I bring her way. And mind you, she has almost given me every hairstyle in the book.  It’s always good to find a stylist you can always trust and really know what styles would fit your hair. She proposed peek-a-boo in the front and a red ombre in the back. I love the results.

So what will be your new hairstyle for 2015? Let me know. If you have any questions fill free to comment or email.

XOXO,

Elle

Hello All,

Hope you are having a great weekend. I find that wearing color really changes how you I  feel and my outlook about anything, so with that in mind, I’ve been trying to incorporate them into my daily clothing choices.  A color, I have been loving for spring is orange. It’s one of those colors that instantly brightens the day. I like adding it to neutral outfits that need a pop of color.

So What color brightens your day? Let me know. Take care and thanks again for reading.

Adding Color To Your World

While perusing articles to get ideas for creating outfits, I realized that color plays a very important role. It not only gives interest to an outfit but life as well. How does one work with color? Is there a right or wrong way? There are definitely many ways to add color to an outfit. I’m going to be honest with you, When I first started out, I kept it simple. A pop of color here and there mixed in with my basic black and neutral pieces. But after a while, that gets a little boring. One of my rules is if it happens in nature, it will look great in an outfit. I love to take snapshots of flowers and animals and the environment around me for inspirations. Often I find  great color combinations that are outfit worthy.

A step up from snapshots is using the color wheel. As an artist, the color wheel is an essential tool. So simple but full of information about colors. Some ways to create color stories in outfits is to work with these color combinations.

colour-wheel

Monochromatic: tint, tone and shade of just one color. Sticking to one color and its many variations creates an amazing outfit.  Ex.  Shades of Purples in one outfit.

Analogous: Using colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. Ex. Red-Violent and Red

Complimentary Colors: Colors that belong on opposite end of the color wheel.  Ex: Blue and Orange

Split Complimentary: Using a color with the two colors on each side of its complimentary color. For example: Red with Yellow-Green and Blue-Green. They work well because Red and Green are complimentary.

Triad: Three colors equally spaced from each other on the color wheel.  For Example: Orange, Green, and Violet

Tetrad: A combination of four colors which are two sets of complimentary colors. For example: Orange and Blue with Red and Green

Hope this was helpful and try it out. What will be the colors of your next outfit?

XOXO,

Elle
