Lately

Lately, I’ve been posting outfits more often on Instagram apart from my blog posts. I’m not into contests but I found this more of a challenge to force me to wear my clothes and be a little creative with what I have in the closet.

I’ve been a huge fan of Fighting Eel for as long as I can remember. My introduction to the brand was Alex the owner of Second Skin when it was at Ward Warehouse. Alex had great fashion sense and choice. I got to know him and the brands he carried and one of them happened to have been Fighting Eel. I love the modern cut of the dresses and tops and the idea that two local designers were doing what they loved and getting attention from famous people for it. I was amazed. I loved their vision for the brand, the fact that each piece could be worn anywhere depending on each wearers personality. I liked the fact that the brand gave me a sense of local identity without trying to fit into flower print island fashion which was not my style.

As I attempt to complete 30 days of Fighting Eel, I want to remember the guy who introduced me to the brand. Despite the fact that we lost him a few years back, the contest reminds me of our conversations and the friendship built on Fighting Eel.

Kissing the Shoreline: Flannel and Flowers

shoreline1

shoreline3shoreline2Hey Everyone,

There is something about the ocean and the shoreline that takes me back to great memories of my childhood spending time with my great great grand aunts on their beach front Spanish style home in Northern Luzon in the Philippines. Wherever I go, I always seem to find myself near the shoreline, looking at the ocean and the peaceful waves that whisper the stories of a place.

On this day, we found ourselves visiting the shorelines of New England.  We spent time in Gloucester and visited the Fisherman’s monument. It is a memorial for the many lives lost at sea in this area.  We also headed up north to Maine to view the beautiful lighthouses. Just like the ocean beckoning me to visit the shoreline, light houses allow people to find their way home. I definitely feel right at home in New England.

It was a little chilly out this morning so I decided to layer lightly. There is something cozy about flannel. I love shirts that are soft and very comfortable and flannel definite fits the bill. I love to juxtapose the rugged and rough look of flannel with a bit of fall floral accents.

I hope you are enjoying the fall as much as I am. Thank you again for reading. Take care.

XOXO,
Elle

Apples and Pumpkins: Layers of Flavor

Hey Everyone,

I checked my phone and it was 45 degrees in the morning. I am definitely not use to weather that chilly. I decided to layer it up for the activities of the day. I kept my base cozy with a button down flannel and then topped it with an open knit pull over cashmere  sweater. I am wishing I could bring this weather back to Hawaii. It’s been so humid and warm back home that I am wishing for cooler weather soon.

We decided to go outlet shopping and then go apple and pumpkin picking in the afternoon. Both activities required attention to detail and I couldn’t wait for both. For the day, I decided to bring with me two pairs of shoes, my pair of comfortable Tory Burch “Reva” flats for shopping and a pair of sneakers, my Adidas cross trainers by Stella McCarthy to help me walk around the farm comfortably.

Visiting Salem: Light Layers

Since we’re in New England and it’s October, we decided to stop into Salem for a day. It was an amazing day taking the different places in town. We stopped in the Salem Witch Museum and learned about the history of the Salem Witch Trials, walked around Salem Commons, stopped and took in the beauty of the House of Seven Gables, the inspiration of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book by the same name and even found a Waikiki Beach in Salem.

The weather was sunny but definitely more chilly than back home. I decided to just throw on my utility vest to keep me warm for the day since it’s in the mid 60’s here.

How do you layer in the fall? Let me know and share your tips.

XOXO,
Elle
