2017 Shoe Additions

img_5541

Hey Everyone,

This year’s Shoe Collections Additions were well thought out and curated. As you all know, at the beginning of this year, I decided to stop shopping for clothes and to be mindful of what I purchase in the clothing department. With that said, in this year’s shoe shopping, I tried to stick with as many wishlist items for this year and past years as possible.   As a result, this year, I did not purchase any shoes that I did not feel was well made, I kept to my wish list for the most part, and I was good with sticking to my rule of never paying for price for shoes.  I will show you the shoes in order of purchase.

Alexander Wang Studded Antonias in Clay and Black [EU 35]

I’ve been wanting this pair for years. It is one of Alexander Wang’s simplest styles and with the studded detail, they have a bit of edge and modern take on a simple sandal. This shoe was one my wish list a few years ago.

Balenciaga Glove Sandal in White [EU 35]

I’ve been loving these shoes since 2013 and when Alexander Wang announced that he was leaving as Creative Director of the fashion house, I knew that this style would be harder and harder to find. I initially wanted a red or a black shoe but the color combinations were quick to sell out. In March, when I went into the boutique one of the Sales Associates told me that this style was going to be discontinued. Initially, I put the Aqua blue version on hold when it went on sale at the boutique and completely missed out on the pair because it quickly sold out. In May, while perusing MyTheresa.com, I found a white version in 35’s. It was not black or red but it is still a great color that I’ll be able to match with many  different pieces in my closet.

Christian Louboutin Madame Menodo in Multi Color Print [EU 34.5]

I tried this pair on last year when it first came out in this color way. I tried it on a whim while talking to my Sales Associate at Neiman’s. It was just a fun day trying on shoes and I was not really thinking that I would like the pair. When I tried it on I instantly fell in love with the uniqueness of the pair and the details of the shoe. It is definitely a conversation starter and a stand out pair. I waited until the price of the shoe dropped to a reasonable price in Last Call before pulling the trigger.

Sophia Webster Calico in Nude [EU 35]

I am a new fan of Sophia Webster shoes. Her designs are very avande garde and have a lot of personality. While other styles may not be for me, the Calico shoe is very reminiscent of my love for nature inspired shoes with its leather sculpted flowers. I love the dainty look of this shoe and its perfect for Spring, Summer, and weddings. I opted for a more neutral color for versatility and seasonal staying power.

Valentino Rockstud Ballet Flats in Pink and Nude Trim [EU 35]

I have been a big fan of the Valentino Rockstud family for years. I know they come in different colors depending on the season. I found these new ballet flats in the ending of September and the beginning of October. The mauve color was closer to a neutral and the patent leather was said to be more durable than the matte leather versions. The shoe is still a little stiff and I realized that Valentinos run big to size. These 35’s fit more like a 35.5. I suggest sizing down for this particular style just because they run bigger and the toe box area is wider than normal. I have a quick fix for that and I’ll share it with you in an upcoming post.

 img_5456

Chloe Kingsley Leather platform Sandal in Bordeaux [EU 35]

I have admired Chloe shoes for years but have never owned a pair of tried on a pair until I saw these Kingsley Leather Platforms. They are extremely comfortable and light. I also absolutely adore the bordeaux color of the pair.

Saint Laurent Patent Leather Tribute Sandals in Cream [EU 34]

I must have tried on these shoes multiple times in the past five years and it has been on my wish list for the past six years. Because of my size and its popularity, it has been difficult for me to get this shoe. I wanted it in black, nude, or a textured color. When I saw these in pristine condition on TheRealReal.com for a very reasonable price within my price point, I decided to get it. I was thoroughly surprised by the preloved quality of this pair of shoes. The patent leather was still taut and not stretched out, the shoe was already resoled. After inspecting the shoe, there were no scuffs of marks. The emblem of the shoe was not rubbed off in the insole.

Thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post. What were some of your 2017 shoe additions. Let me know if in the comments below.

Michelle

2017 Shoe Wishlist

Hello All,

Sharing with you my 2017 Shoe Wishlist. Some of these are making it back from a few years ago and some are new pairs that I’d love to add to my shoe closet.  These styles have been mainstays in a few of these designer collections but I’ve been eyeing these for a while.

I’m completely in love with two pairs of shoes from Valentino, the Rockstud pumps and sandals. I love the elegant twist on the rock vibe. I’ve always loved spikes and I just love the juxtaposition of an elegant shoe with very masculine details.

I have two pairs of sandals on my wish list. The first is the Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandals.  I love the minimalist look of this shoe. The second is the Saint Laurent’s Tribute. It’s been on my wish list for the longest time. I’ve tried both pairs a few times and have been in love with their comfort.

I’ve recently been into two pairs of Manolo Blahnik pumps, the ever so popular BB Pumps and the iconic Hangisi.  I’ve always loved pumps and both of these are classic styles that are collection worthy. It also helps that the Hangisi was popularized by Carrie Bradshaw’s shoe obsession.

Last but not the list is the Gucci Marmont . I love it’s its chunky heel and loafer look. It reminds me a lot of vintage shoes because of its classic cut.

Thank you again for reading. What on your shoe wish list?

XOXO,

Michelle

Something Old, Something New: Putting it All Together

croppedsweater2

croppedsweater3Hello All,

My photographer and I wanted to try something new by doing a night time shoot. Let me know how it turned out. One of the hardships with night time shoots is always lighting. I think he did a good job with what little light we had available.

I have recently examine my closet and realized that my closet is a mixture of pieces that I have collected over the years; pieces from college that I try too keep in good condition, hand me down pieces, pieces I have found on Ebay, discounted and outlet items, some vintage and thrifted acquisitions and new pieces. Despite where I have found most of the pieces from my closet, one thing remains the same, they all fit my style. It’s not as incohesive as described above, there is definitely a running style thread that makes all the pieces in my closet fit together.

This outfit is just that, a hodge podge of different items that just fit together.  From my pairs of Christian Louboutin heels to vintage items liked this polka dot skirt which was a great find from Barrio Vintage, a local vintage shop, to the cropped short sleeve sweater from the  Peter Pilotto for Target collection and the glue that ties them to together, is a classic white button down shirt that can be worn with anything.

One quote that sticks out to me from one of my favorite designers as a child, Yves Saint Laurent once said, “Fashion fades, Style is Eternal.” Stay Stylish Ladies and Gentlemen.

XOXO,

Elle

Downtown Adventure: Modern Mod Dress and Simple Crossbody

Vintage9

Hey Everyone,

Hope you are having a great week. This past weekend, I celebrated the two year anniversary of A Pair of Shoes for Everyday. It’s been a great year of learning and growing but I could not help but celebrate the small successes.

To celebrate this little blog that can, we decided for a Downtown Honolulu adventure. For several years, Downtown Honolulu has gone through major transformations, there are so many cool places to eat and lounge as well as shop. We decided to checkout a new location for Marukame Udon and Tempura before checking out the different boutiques.  I like the atmosphere and character of downtown; the different architectural styles, the red bricked buildings, the patches of cobble stone walkways, the older buildings of China Town intermingled with soaring skyscrapers and the small welcoming gardens for people taking a break.  Everyone is always coming or going but on holidays, it is quite peaceful.

After lunch, we walked down the street to check out the boutiques that have sprung up near the landmark Hawaii Theatre. On days like this, I like to pop into Fighting Eel to see their latest line, check the stock  of Jeffrey Campbell shoes at Homecoming Boutique, new artful accessories at Ginger13 or stop by Let Them Eat Cupcakes to pick up my favorite flavors. Today however, I decided to check out Barrio Vintage to peruse their selection of vintage finds and check out Cake Envy for their amazing cheesecakes.

Recently, my go to purse is this cream Tribeca Hudson Street Crossbody. I’m rarely ever interested in handbags or bags for that matter but I picked this up a couple of months ago to make it easier to carry all the essentials. It was the bag of choice as I ran out the door for our downtown adventure.  It’s so easy to pair with anything, perfect for days you want your hands to be free, and great for shopping and running errands.

The Skinnier Shoe Closet: Keeping, Returning, Expunging, and Donating

cropped-michelle_sandisland-24.jpg

One of my initials goals for this blog was to help me manage my ever growing collection of shoes. I started the collection when I was a teenager and it has since ballooned to a significant amount. In many ways the title and namesake of this blog was to celebrate my shoe collection. Initially, I thought about the name and what I really wanted to accomplish. I really deliberated on word usage and syntax before finalizing the name of the blog. If it was called A Pair of Shoes for Every Day, it meant that I had a pair of shoes for every day of the year which honestly I am glad I do not have. I chose to call the blog A Pair of Shoes for Everyday because I wanted to start to par down my collection to pairs of shoes that were wearable for everyday and for many occasions.

Last year, one of my major goals for myself was to par down my shoe collection and just keep the shoes that I love and cannot live without. I started with a large amount of footwear in the beginning of 2012. This number included flip flops, pumps, sneakers, boots and other footwear.  By the end of 2012, the collection got down to a manageable amount, the number did pendulum but nevertheless the amount was still a lot.

At the same time in 2012, I started to review my shoe collection and decided to expunge many of the pairs I no longer wore and no longer felt reflected my personal style. I started throwing away pairs of shoes that could not be saved by a cobbler.  I gave away new and barely worn shoes to friends that wanted them. In the next round of expunging, I set aside shoes that were resell-able. I donated several pairs of shoes at the locale Savers or for pick up by locale charitable organizations as well as posted others on eBay or on re-seller websites such as Poshmark. I also took a few pairs to my local Plato’s Closet to be resold and started to return the items that were fairly new, unused, and bought on a whim before their return deadline. For the pairs that remained, I brought them to my cobbler to be resoled and fixed.

So what are the results? It is now 2014 and my blog is reaching another anniversary in couple of months and my shoe closet has definitely lost some weight. I have learned many lessons throughout the process of maintaining my blog. First and foremost, I have learned to be mindful of my shopping habits. I now look at the quality and fit of each pair I purchase. The shoe reviews that I have been doing really helped me fine tune the art of scrutinizing footwear and becoming more critical of the purchases that I make. I now read shoe reviews and scroll through feedback on shoes to really see if the pair is worth the purchase. After each purchase, I allow the shoes to grow on me and if they do not, I return them. I have started to look at price per wear of each shoe and if it really fits into my wardrobe and lifestyle.

What is in store for this blog in 2014 in regards to shoes? Because I do not plan on purchasing many pairs of shoes this year, I made a short list of possible shoe additions. I have decided to do reviews on my purchases, at least once a month.

If you have any shoes that you would like me to review, please feel free to leave me an email or a comment below. What’s on your shoe wish list this year?

XOXO,

Elle

Thank Yous and My 2014 Wish List

2014 Wish List

This made it to my wish list last year and it makes it again this year. It’s extremely hard to find  a red one in my size since many colors from Balenciaga is seasonal. Last week I found another option but we will see what the year brings.

I tried these at Nordstrom the other week and my calves do not seem to fit in this boot. I’m hoping to add it sometime in the future and perhaps stretch the boot to fit my calves better.

My All Time Favorite Bag. It is makes it on my wishlist again this year.

Kate Spade had a version of this but I really like the look of this cross body and work appropriate style. It’s classic, durable, and a great price.

I love high quality vintage items. I’ve been looking for one of these for a while, not to find it in the right color at the right price point.

I absolutely adore the layers of metal feathers. It is an amazing statement piece that I would love to have in my collection one day. It is also another wishlist item that is making it back on the list this year.

This piece is dainty and rugged at the same time. I love the balance of sparkle and spikes.
Last but not the least, a Celine Micro Luggage in a neutral color. It is a classic that I would like to have in my collection of handbags.

Hello All,
I hope you are having a wonderful week. I am a little early with next year’s wish list but I figured I will post it before I review this year’s wish list.  I am truly very grateful for an extremely amazing year for myself as well as this blog. I definitely would not have done this blog without everyone who has stopped by and read, left comments, and gave me advice. I have a couple of special Thank Yous I would love to send out. I want to thank Kelly from Alterations Needed  for giving me the most valuable advice about branding and blogging. Without her, I do not think I would have taken the step to own my own domain. I also want to thank Ashley from One Fine Day for all the blog advice and support. Many many thank yous also go out to Taryn Reid  Photography, Glenn Andaya Photo, and Adam Levine, my current photographer and marketing consultant for all their wonderful photography. I have truly learned so much from each of you. In addition, I want to thank everyone who has read this blog and took the time to share your lives with me through comments or even emails. Without you this blog would not be where it is today.  2013 was definite a year of surprises and big steps and I truly cannot wait to make more new friends in the blogging world. Thank you for a great 2013 and I’m hoping for an even better 2014.

I’ve definitely learned to appreciate Lists. I found this cool new strategy called Bullet Journals and it takes lists to a different level. I am using it at the moment to organize myself and to be as efficient as possible.  Last year, I created a Wish List of Luxury Fashion Items that I really wanted to add to my wardrobe. This year I am going to do the same. I have a few repeats and deletions from last year but again I am going to say that lists help people realize their goals and I’m going to see if it will work again this year.

What’s on your wishlist for 2014?

XOXO,
Elle

Review: Tory Burch Reva Flats

Hi All,

Hope you are having an amazing Saturday. I’m trying to get things done on my list and as promised here is my review of the Tory Burch Reva Flats that I picked up on Sunday.

This week, I couldn’t seem to get enough of how comfortable these flats felt on my feet. I have read many many reviews on them and everyone I have read has spoken about it. This year, I put in on my wishlist of items I wanted to add to my closet. Here is my take on the Reva Flats.

I own three pairs of flats in my collection of shoes. Two are from Jeffrey Campbell and this pair of black Reva Flats from Tory Burch.   I initially wanted a pair that had a subdued black emblem but the gold emblem detail stood out to me. I tried several pairs before settling on getting this pair and after a week owning them, I have already worn them several times at work.

I love the way the leather feels on my feet. It is supple and soft and hugs my feet.

Details about the shoe:

Packaging: The shoe comes in a box with the signature Tory Burch design.  The shoe was in bed of tissue paper. It does not come with a dust bag.

Fit:  TTS. I usually fit shoes from sizes 4 to 6 depends on the cut and make of the shoe, for this particular shoe I purchased a size 5 because I felt the 4.5  feel to snug for my toes in the toe box area. The heel has elastic gathering which I am happy about because it stays on my narrow heel. So far, I’m very happy with the fit of the shoe.

Quality: The shoe is made of soft nappa leather with the signature Tory Burch emblem for ornamentation in the front of the shoe. The lining for this shoe is leather and the insole has padding that hugs your feet at every step. The craftsmanship looks amazing.

Comfort: After a week for wear,  the shoe has not given me blisters or cuts. The shoes is extremely comfortable.

Price: $225.00 (But prices may vary depending on the establishment)

I hope this helps you decide if this is the shoe for you. I’m glad that I purchased them.

Hope you are having an amazing Saturday. Take care.

XOXO,

Elle
