One Month Challenge

fightingeel

A week ago I finish the 30 Day Challenge of wearing Fighting Eel, a local brand in Hawaii. I had fun creating outfits with their stuff and trying to make each outfit unique since a lot of the items I purchase from the brand are solid colors. I do not know if I’ll do anymore challenges in the future but I had fun doing it. I’ll share a few outfits I really liked during the challenge.

I have to be honest, I like to mix it up with different pieces in my closet so the pieces do not only stand alone but also work with items I already have. I also like to accessorize the outfits to give them some personality. I hope you like it.

P.S. This is not a sponsored post. I just happen to have a lot of their pieces in my closet.

Lately

Lately, I’ve been posting outfits more often on Instagram apart from my blog posts. I’m not into contests but I found this more of a challenge to force me to wear my clothes and be a little creative with what I have in the closet.

I’ve been a huge fan of Fighting Eel for as long as I can remember. My introduction to the brand was Alex the owner of Second Skin when it was at Ward Warehouse. Alex had great fashion sense and choice. I got to know him and the brands he carried and one of them happened to have been Fighting Eel. I love the modern cut of the dresses and tops and the idea that two local designers were doing what they loved and getting attention from famous people for it. I was amazed. I loved their vision for the brand, the fact that each piece could be worn anywhere depending on each wearers personality. I liked the fact that the brand gave me a sense of local identity without trying to fit into flower print island fashion which was not my style.

As I attempt to complete 30 days of Fighting Eel, I want to remember the guy who introduced me to the brand. Despite the fact that we lost him a few years back, the contest reminds me of our conversations and the friendship built on Fighting Eel.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

I have always been a fan of stripes. I am going to admit that I have a lot of striped pieces in my closet from button downs, shirts, skirts, and most especially dresses.  I gravitate towards thinner horizontal and vertical stripes that are printed closer together just because they elongate and accentuate my petite frame. I look for silhouettes that are more fitted because the stripes create the illusion of contouring the body.

How do you wear your stripes?  Like this post and leave a comment below and let me know what you think.  Thanks again for reading.

Happy Thursday Everyone,

For the past couple of years, I’ve been inspired to shop outside of my conform zone. Denim pants, shorts, and skirts, have always been my fashion security blanket because they are easy to pair and wear with just about anything. Recently, I’ve been on a mission to find bottoms made of different textures, prints, and fabrics and experiment with different pairings.

A couple of weeks ago, I found this quilted faux leather shorts and was inspired to pair them with different items from my closet. The result is this art deco inspired pairing with a modern herringbone designed tank and brass jewelry. I love how the different textures, finishes, and designs fit so well together.

Thank you again for reading. Take care.

XOXO,
Elle

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I love sunny Sundays during the summertime, when it’s warm outside I like to take a drive with friends to the North Shore of Oahu to get the best Garlic Shrimp on the island at Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck or pick up a sandwich at Wailua Bakery in Haleiwa. I also enjoy picking up pineapple ice cream at the Dole Plantation or shave ice to feed my sweet tooth.

My favorite outfit to wear on a warm summer day is a simple short dress that I can throw over my bathing suit and a pair of flip flops. Some of my favorite throw on pieces are from a Hawaii based brand called Fighting Eel. I adore how many of their pieces are multifunctional, they are great to throw over a swim suit or wear out with a cute pair of sandals or heels. Best footwear to wear to the beach is a pair of comfortable flipflops that you can easily slip and and out of your feet, they need to dry easily, and be very comfortable to wear.

A little Fun in the Sun: Crop Top and Brocade Skirt

Hello Everyone,

Happy Saturday to you!  I woke up to the rustle of wind outside and the sun peaking through the clouds.  I have to admit that as  Summer approaches, the days here start off sunny and end up with  light showers and  wind. One of the major challenges that I have dealt with in the pursuit of taking great pictures for this blog is dealing with the elements on photo shoot day. The sun gets into your eyes, the wind blows everything everywhere, and the rain likes to pop in here and there, and through it all, the face, the clothes, and the pose need to look flawless. It’s work in progress but eventually, I will master the art of taking better pictures.

The crop top is definitely making a comeback. I love to pair it with trouser jeans, flowing skirts, and shorts. Sometimes I like to layer it under jackets and vests. On hot days, it’s a welcomed outfit staple when touring around the island getting pineapple ice cream or “shave ice” desserts or getting lunch at Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck on the North Shore of Oahu.

What comeback trends have you tried lately? Please share your thoughts with me.  Thank you again for reading.

XOXO,
Elle

Hey all,
Hope you are having an amazing weekend. Rainy season in Hawaii has given way to very very humid weather. There are pockets of cool weather here and there but Summer is definitely pushing Spring out of center stage real fast. I definitely miss Winter and Spring for the cooler weather that’s because I love layering and wearing boots. I welcome the refreshing coolness since Hawaii is typically warmer throughout the year. I guess it’s time to embrace the warm weather. I did some Spring and Summer shopping which I will be sharing with you in the upcoming blogs.

What are some Spring and Summer items that you picked out for yourself? Let me know.

XOXO,
Elle

Maroons and Browns

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are having a great start of the week. I have always loved Fighting Eel dresses. They are dresses that are very versatile and wearable for any occasion. I picked up this Fighting Eel dress last year at a sample sale. I love the deep maroon color. Here, I paired this Fighting Eel Dress with a beige blazer, pumped up the neckline with a cluster bib fushia necklace I borrowed from my bestie. I finished the outfit with a brown pleated front peep toe pump from Aldo.   Hope you like it. Take care.

XOXO,

Elle
