Dramatic Lengths: Asymmetric Blouse and Roses

Three months ago, I went to the HI Design Commune event. I got a chance to meet some of Hawaii’s designers and take a look at their summer collections. it always great to see designer interpretations of the seasons in Hawaii.

Being a big fan of stand out pieces, one particular piece that I fell in love with is this asymmetric blouse from Ten Tomorrow. It’s beautiful rose print and it’s delicate cascading pleats remind me so much of easy breezy summer days but the marsala in the print readily welcomes Fall. I’m glad that I can wear this piece a little longer.

The cut of the piece makes it a statement top that’s great for a night on the town, dinner date with the girls or with the man.

Thanks again for reading. Take care and let me know what you think.

Seventies Flare: Wide Leg Trousers and Bow Collar Blouse

I am completely loving Spring’s throwback to the 70’s. The wide legged pants, the high necklines and platform shoes.  The feeling of nostalgia is welcomed without the color combinations from the 70’s.

But it all honesty, the 70’s never left fashion, it just stepped out of the fashion limelight. At least that is how I see it. 70’s style has been around here and there, spotted in several reincarnations as jumpsuits, coordinates, blouses, and wide legged pants through the years.

For this look, I did not look very far, I actually decided to shop my closet and see if the 70’s trend already existed in it and low and behold this outfit came together.

It is an outfit of items I added into my closet from many seasons past. The trouser look from 2011, a bow collar blouse from two years ago and a basic cardigan I adore. Not to mention, a pair of ultra wedge platforms picked up on sale a while back.

A style or trend that is classic never really leaves, it sort of lingers until it takes the fashion stage again. So a tip I would like to share with you is, before running to the mall to get the latest trend this season, check out your closet and find items you already love that embody the trend.

How are you translating the 70’s trend this season? Tell me what you think. Thanks again for reading.

Fade to Gray: Gray Stripes and Violet Highlights

Happy Saturday Everyone,

The weather here is getting chilly especially for Hawaii standards. It is definitely my favorite time of year because I have the opportunity to layer, something I do not have a chance to do the rest of the year.

Gray is big this season and I wanted to create an outfit using different shades of gray. I found this dress from Florencia Arias, a local designer, and I instantly fell in love with the cut and the subtle stripes of gray. I like to mix pieces that have structure to pieces that are more organic so naturally, I chose this open cardigan for its shape and added a pop of color with this scarf.

Thank you so much for reading. Let me know what you think.

White Shirts are Easy

Hello Everyone,

White shirts make the world go round. I have a ton of them in my closet, in different fabrics, cuts, and fits. I found this easy pullover from Rumi Murikami’s Summer Collection last month at the Made in Hawaii festival and I’ve already worn in several times. It’s an easy piece that goes with everything. I can dress it up or dress it down and the cut is perfect for those extra warm Hawaiian afternoons. I paired this shirt with a set of DIY necklaces and a pair of patented red ballet flats to give it a polished tribal look. How do you wear your white shirts? Let me know.

P.S. The Cut Collective is having a trunk show this weekend, Saturday, September 27, 2014, 11 AM-4PM. Check out the amazing collections of Allison Izu, Rumi Murakami, and Ten Tomorrow.

Surf Safari: Organic and Ocean Inspired Jewelry

Hey Everyone,

Hope you are having a great weekend. The holidays have been busy and we have seen quite a bit of rain this winter in Hawaii. It was nice to see the sun for the past couple of days, we got a chance to drive up to the North Shore the other day to check out the 25 foot surf and take in some of the island before the new year.

To celebrate Hawaii’s sun and surf culture, I wanted to highlight some of the jewelry pieces I picked up in the past couple of weeks that I just can not stop wearing. I have been a fan of Jewelry Artist  Cindy Yokoyama for many years now. I picked up a couple of her bracelets several weeks ago. I love how her eclectic pieces are organic, natural, and really capture the essence of Hawaii.

Last week, I also picked up a couple vermeil stacking rings from Tide Pool Love. I enjoy how the stacking rings are dainty, feminine, and celebrate the beauty of the ocean.

Thank you again for reading. Take care and Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

A little Fun in the Sun: Crop Top and Brocade Skirt

CroptopBrocade1 CroptopBrocade2 CroptopBrocade3 CroptopBrocade4

Hello Everyone,

Happy Saturday to you!  I woke up to the rustle of wind outside and the sun peaking through the clouds.  I have to admit that as  Summer approaches, the days here start off sunny and end up with  light showers and  wind. One of the major challenges that I have dealt with in the pursuit of taking great pictures for this blog is dealing with the elements on photo shoot day. The sun gets into your eyes, the wind blows everything everywhere, and the rain likes to pop in here and there, and through it all, the face, the clothes, and the pose need to look flawless. It’s work in progress but eventually, I will master the art of taking better pictures.

The crop top is definitely making a comeback. I love to pair it with trouser jeans, flowing skirts, and shorts. Sometimes I like to layer it under jackets and vests. On hot days, it’s a welcomed outfit staple when touring around the island getting pineapple ice cream or “shave ice” desserts or getting lunch at Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck on the North Shore of Oahu.

What comeback trends have you tried lately? Please share your thoughts with me.  Thank you again for reading.

Dots of Prosperity and Joy

Michelle_SandIsland-26 Michelle_SandIsland-27 Michelle_SandIsland-29Michelle_SandIsland-30

Hello all,

Happy Aloha Friday everyone! I love saying that. It has a ring to it that makes you enjoy the weekend just a tad bit more. As a kid, I enjoyed my summers away from school spending time at friends houses, having sleepovers, and enjoying the beach on sunnier days. I remember going to this place, Sand Island, and playing on the rocks with my brother whenever my family had a beach day.  Ashley, my photographer, and I had fun taking this shoot on the rocks with the backdrop of Downtown Honolulu. I love the juxtaposition of the relaxing beach atmosphere to the concrete jungle. I enjoyed skipping on the rocks, can you tell?

In my culture, wearing polka dots on New Years Eve suggests that the coming year will be full of wealth, joy, and prosperity  and since Summer for me marks the ending of a year and the beginning of a new one, I decided to wear polka dots to celebrate a more amazing year for my career, this blog, as well as other plans I have in store.

Hope you are Having a Great Friday! I am about to start mine. Follow my blog or check me out on Instagram at ellelovesshoes.

Smiles and Rainbows: Printed Dress and Gold Details

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you are having an amazing and good Friday! It’s been raining a lot lately here the past couple of days. When in rains in Hawaii, there are always rainbows, gleams of hope on rainy days, that brighten up the gloomy sky. I love the way the half moon print of the dress reminds me of rainbows and smiling faces.

Hope you are having an amazing day!

Green Bows and Sunny Skies

Hello Everyone,
The weather in Hawaii has been a little unstable. Sunny, Rainy, Humid, Hot, and Cold. You name it, we had it and yes, we even have snow, but that’s on another island. It’s been hard to shoot outside with the weather we have been having. This outfit was shot last week when there was some sun in the morning.

I absolutely love the bow details on this pair of pants and the green is just the right amount of color. I try to find a reason to wear them often. I have to admit though that the women’s version of these pants were a little long for me so I opted to get the crewcuts version.

Hope you are having an amazing day!

Button Downs and Interesting Prints

I love button down shirts because they are so versatile for any wardrobe. Besides the classic colors, I like ones that have interesting prints to spice up the the wardrobe. They can be worn with skirts, slacks, or a pair of jeans, and even a pair if shorts.

The particular button down shirt in this outfit has the rich colors that are popular in the fall: reds, beiges, oranges, and touches of teal.
