New Year, New Directions

Happy New Year’s Everyone! I hope you are starting the new year with love ones, having lots of laughter, joy, peace and love. I wanted to wish you endless happiness and adventure in the coming year. From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank you of your support throughout the years.

This blogs focus has been fashion in the past 7 years and while fashion brings me joy, I have been thinking a lot about it in the past year. Last year, I wanted to work on not shopping for most of the year and I have been very good. I shopped less. I do want to share with you outfits and shoes that I enjoy wearing. I have set the goal of carefully curating my closet to downsize and to fine tune my style. At the same time, I would like to share more of my creativity with you with more styling posts and things I learn along the way and maybe I can also share with you a little bit of history and culture, another passion I hold dear to me. I have decided to do new things this year.

Gratefulness. Taking the time to be grateful for the things we already have and the things that matter: family, great friends, and the little things in between.  In the fashion sense, I wanna to be grateful for the items I already have in my closet and how to best utilize them in their capacity.

Culture, History & Creativity. Creating and being creative has been an integral part of my life. I would like to put more effort in this aspect of my life this year and transferring this creativity in the way I style my clothes. A lot of pieces  in my closet have potential and I would like to use each piece well.

Health and Fitness. Focusing on eating right and  being healthy, taking time to exercise, and  learn to cook good food.

2019 is promising. Make it a great one. Cheers!

XOXO,

Michelle

Simplifying

It’s June of 2018 and I have not posted on my blog for about half a year. Before that it seemed that I gave up posting outfits entirely.  My Instagram is a little bit more active but still very sporadic.

How does one explain changes in life and perspective? I have always loved fashion and loved the ability to put together outfits. It’s been two years since I really started to look into capsule wardrobes. I’m not new to them. I used capsule wardrobes a lot when I traveled in the past but honestly, I have been feeling  drawn to the idea of a much simpler wardrobe. The question is: Where do I begin? I love the pieces I purchase and I loved color, textures and prints. How does one create a capsule that really fits their personality? These are the questions that I have been reflecting on and perhaps this is the essential starting point.

Besides reflecting on capsule wardrobes, my shopping habits have changed in the past couple of years.  I shopped less and I try to wear what’s in my closet. Budgeting became important with getting married, getting an apartment and going back to school, so it was one of the most essential components of my process. Additionally, I am truly bothered with the idea of consumption and the impacts of fast fashion around the world. I shop less now because of it and I really think about my purchases a lot more than I use to. I believe every little bit counts. For two years, I have taught students in my classroom about the impact of fashion on their environment, on people, and on their lives. I needed to live the example and be the role model when it comes to how I interact with fashion.

It seems like a lot to think about but in all honesty, I have been thinking about these a lot for a very long time. But thinking about something and actually doing something about it are two different things. If I am going to change anything, actions have a far greater impact than just speaking about it.  It’s time to make these actions real.

As a result, my blog is transforming with these goals in mind.

NEW GOALS FOR THIS BLOG:

  1.  Style Diary: This blog has been my style diary. I hope to posts more frequently showing a personal style that reflects me right now.
  2.  Shop less, Style more:  I have always loved styling and putting pieces together. I love the thought process behind my outfits. I hope to share that with you.
  3.  Fashion History and Influence  I have a passion of history and would like to incorporate that into writing this blog.
  4. Environmentally Conscious and Sustainable. I am continually striving to do this.

Thanks again for reading.

XOXO,

Michelle

A New Chapter Begins…

new-years

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had an amazing New Year’s Eve and you had an opportunity to spend it people that you care about and love. A New Year always promises a clean slate and the promise of a new beginning full of opportunities. I personally cannot wait to get this year started on the blog.

I’ve officially spent the first couple of days of the new year cleaning out my old room. So many nostalgic memories come with cleaning out an old space. I wanted to start the year right with a clean slate. Some pieces will be thrown away, others will be donated and sold and a few pieces will find a new home at our apartment.

As the New Year begins, its nice to set some goals as resolutions often fall on the wayside. Here’s a few of mine.

  1. Enjoy Life. Taking the time to be grateful for the things we already have and the things that matter: family, great friends, and the little things in between.
  2. Be Healthy.  Focusing on eating right and healthy, taking time to exercise, as well as overall well being.
  3. Creativity is Key. Creating and being creative has been an integral part of my life and work ethnic. I would like to put more effort in creating a better creative space for myself.

Let’s have an amazing year full of gratefulness, laughter, family and friends. Put great effort into making 2017 the best year ever for you and for me.  Cheers!

XOXO,

Michelle

I’m on a Shopping Diet . . .

Hey All,

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I made a deal with one of my friends that we would go on a diet together. Not just exercising and eating healthy but also putting the pocketbook on a much needed diet.  I’ve been emptying out my closet these past couple of months anticipating some major changes in the near future. I didn’t realize it was so much work trying to get rid of  stuff that has accumulated through the years. I sat down with a friend of mine and tried on dress after dress and put them into piles. I had a pile of maybes for the ones I could not part with yet. I’m trying to be as thorough as possible knowing that there are pieces in my closet that I truly covet and cannot part with at the moment.

Shoes of course is a different story. Deciding whether to keep a pair of shoes or to sell it, is definitely taking a lot of thought. There are shoes that I like a lot and have decided to put them up for sale on eBay and Poshmark because I believe they will find better homes with women who will love them and wear them out more than I do.  Paring down the collection is work but making a list of pros and cons helps me a lot in my decision making process. The blog through the year is helping me understand my style more than ever.  If the shoe no longer fits my style profile, it definitely goes into the pile that is going to a better home. Making room on my shoe shelf  and giving the pairs I love more mileage is on my need to do list.

There are days I wish I could shop especially since J. Crew and Zara just had a major sale. I trick is that I avoid J. Crew at the mall and luckily we do not have a Zara here. I still window shop on the sites to see what’s up and put items in my shopping cart but I really think about purchasing these items. It’s helping a little but like I said earlier, there are goals I am looking forward to accomplishing so the diet will have to do for now until that goal is reached.

How do put yourself on a shopping diet?

XOXO,

Elle
