Shoe of the Month: Alexander Wang ‘Antonia’ Sandals

antonia2

Hi Everyone,

I decided to start something new on the blog. Each month I’d like to feature and review pairs of shoes. I have done reviews before  this time I’m going to try to do them on a monthly basis

Details about the shoe:

Packaging: 5/5

Shipped in brown shipping box with tissue paper padding to prevent shoe box damage. Shoebox is sturdy cardboard with black on black printing. Alexander Wang printed tissue paper covers the shoe. Tissue paper is  used to stuff the shoes so that the straps on the ankle and the toe box area keep their shape.

Fit:  4/5

STS. I’m a size 4.5 and the size 5 fit me well. The ankle straps have an adjustable buckle.  If you are in between sizes, I recommend sizing up because these run small.

antonia3

Quality: 4/5

The pair of shoes is of high quality leather. It has a full grain leather insole, leather sole and suede body. It is stamped with Vero Cuoio at the bottom of the size stamp. The shoes uses Italian sizing but they are not made in Italy. Actually if you flip the strap for your toes it says Made in China. The suede upper is soft and supple and does not cut into your skin or create blistering.  The leather insole is black which is easy to clean and will not darken over time with the oils in your skin.  The outsole of the shoe is made of  black leather. Overtime this will wear so rubberize outsoles will need to be added on. Also I recommends spraying some waterproofing protectant on these to protect them from water/moisture damage.

Comfort: 5/5

My first pair is Orange and orange is not a easy color to pair. I have worn them several times and the curve of the arch actually fits the curve of my feet so they do not ache after a few hours of wearing. The height of the heel is about 3 inches and they are fairly comfortable to walk in.

Price: Depends on when and where you guys these.  I bought mines at Bloomingdales and at the Alexander Wang website. The original price of the shoe is runs about $475 full price. But I have found them for more reasonable prices. Seasonal colors and styles go on sale at the end of the season.

Is it a Shoe for Everyday?

The style is definitely classic and wearable for various occasions. I suggest investing in a nuetral pair without embellishments because you may get more wear out of them. It is a pair of sandals that I would purchase again. Yes, because I have. The silhouette is classic and many brands carry similar styles so if this one does not suit your price point then there are similar ones out there for you.

I hope this helps you decide if this is a sandal for you . If you are deciding to purchase this for yourself it would be a great addition to your collection as it is a versatile shoe.

antonia6Have a great Tuesday, take care and happy shoe shopping.

Shoe Tips: Adding Buckle Holes

Hey Everyone,

After several conversations with friends, I decided do a feature on my blog about how to take care of your shoes and sandals. It is actually inspired by my friends Melissa and Balbino while we were doing the photoshoot back in March.  The conversation was about shoes and shoe care and with their encouragement, I’ve been in the process of developing this new feature on my blog.

Let’s start with something simple like adding buckle holes to sandals, belts, and bags. Being petite, sometimes regular sizing does not work with my measurements.  As a kid, I would get my dad to punch holes into my sandals, shoes, and belts so that they would fit. My dad usually used a awl but the finish was never as clean as the rest of the holes on my sandals or belts. In college, while walking around the craft store I found a leather hole punch.

20160510_230001

It was a godsend. One, it made punching extra holes in leather so much more easier. Two, the finish was much more neater than an awl.

Below is a tutorial on how to add buckle holes. I purchased these sandals from Asos about a month ago. I really loved their single strap construction but when I tried it on, the ankle strap was a little loose. It needed a simple fix, so I’m using them to show you up to add buckle holes on belts and straps.

First measure the space between two holes on your sandal strap or your belt. For this sandal the space between holes is half a centimeter.

Place the measuring tape on the last existing hole and measure out the space for the next hole using the measurement taken earlier.

pencilmark

Mark the measurement with a pencil.

adjustSet the leather punch to the size of the hole needed to make the hole.

leatherpunchPlace the leather punch on the pencil mark on the strap. Make sure that  it is aligned with the rest of the holes on the strap.

And Voila! Extra buckle holes with a nice finish.

Hope this was helpful. Let me know what you think.

Getting Back Into the Swing of Things: Golden Coins and Trapeze Dress

IMG_8677

Hey All,

Happy Saturday to everyone. It’s definitely a hot and humid Summer. I thought that in the beginning of Summer I’d have more time to do more blog posts but life has been busy. I’m just hoping that I’ll get back into the swing of things once I get everything organized and check off my list.

Flow2

One of my favorite go to outfits for running around and doing errands are trapeze dresses and sandals. They are so easy to just throw on and accessorize. I have a few that I have been rotating during the summer to keep cool during these hotter months.

I am really hoping to get back into the swing of things in a week or two but until then, thanks again for reading and take care.

Crispy White Summer

crispywhite1

Hey all,

Happy Tuesday to everyone. Warmer summer weather is definitely here. It’s been so humid out that wearing layers and jeans is out of the question. I’ve been keeping cool with lighter airy fabrics that make this humid weather more bearable. During the summer months, I live in dresses and sandals to keep cool and comfortable during warmer weather.

crispywhite2

Lately, I’ve really been loving this white apron dress that I picked up last summer from Rumi Murakami, a local designer here in Hawaii. I love the crispy white fabric and the deconstructed lines of this dress. It’s the perfect dress to battle the warm summer months.

And the perfect pair of mainstay sandals are a great pair of gladiator sandals.

So how do you keep cool during the warm summer months? Let me know. Take care.

Elle

I’ve really been loving all the Spring trends this year and I could not help be bring out all of my old favorites. In honestly, when I saw the one shoulder trend on the runway, I was very ecstatic. I love asymmetric tops and I have been keeping this blouse for years waiting for the trend to come back into play.

Review: Mohop Sandals/Shoes “Bespoke”

Hi All,

Hope you are having a great holiday season. I have not done a shoe review in a while so I decided to revisit a couple of pairs of shoes that I have owned for a while.

For the past three and half years, I have been the proud owner of 2 pairs of “Bespoke” Mohop Sandals. I came across the company accidentally several years ago while perusing Etsy.com. I was initially attracted to the look of the shoe and was interested in its construction.  I searched for their website and read more about the company before deciding to purchase.  I really liked the company’s mission and vision and social consciousness. I like their focus on using sustainable and recycle-able materials as well as materials that are fair trade.

One of my reservations about buying the shoes at first was the fit and comfort of the shoe, I read several reviews and many of the reviews spoke about the wear-ability and comfort of the shoe. After taking some time, I emailed Annie Mohaupt, the owner of the company and asked all the questions I needed before ordering. I was really happy to know she answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable about my first customized  pair.

The smallest size they offered on the website was a size 5 and being a size 4.5, I was afraid the size 5 may be overwhelming on my foot. I was glad to know that they customized shoes based off a drawn outline of your feet. Sizing for Mohops are petite friendly. I say this because not every size 5 is a true size 5. Sizes range depending on the cut of the shoe. I was glad Mohops sandals are literally cut to your size.

When I first received the shoes, they came via priority mail. Annie emailed after they were done and told me it was on its way. It took about three weeks for the Mohop team to create. I could not wait to receive the shoes. When they arrived they were in a plastic foldable shoe box, packaged in an organza bag, tying instructions, 7 pairs of ribbons, and wooden rings in several sizes for styling purposes.

The first thing I examined was the craftsmanship of the shoes. The wood is sanded, polished, and finished with care. Because the Mohop team put great attention to detail, the shoes were clean and free of defects.

I tried the many ways of tying the shoes that were provided on the cards as well a perused online for other tying ideas. I liked some more than others but it is really based on personal preferences. I noticed that I favored cleaner finishes to ending the sandals, so I played with different ribbons, buckles, rings, and even added snaps and hook and eye closures to different ribbons to get the look that I wanted. The possibilities for tying and ending the ties for the shoe are limitless. I find new ways each time I play with mine. Honestly, it is really a shoe for every day if you are the creative type. It can be worn with many different outfits and you can definitely style the shoes according to the outfit and the occasion. Some drawbacks to the sandals, although they are easy to put on, I do not recommend using them if you need to remove your shoes frequently, they take some time to put back on.

I have been wearing mine for years now, these shoes are extremely comfortable to walk in. The platform and the pitch of the sandals balance each other so that it does not put pressure on your arches. The sandals comes in different heights. Both pairs that I own are about 3.5 to 4 inches in height but they never hurt my feet when I am in them for long periods of time.

When I purchased my sandals, each of them were $150+ in 2010. The current price for the Bespoke Style runs about $500+. It may be a bit pricey for the style but the sandal can be styled in so many different ways, that you could literally have 500 different pairs of sandals for the price of one. And if you calculate price per wear, you can own a hundred pairs of shoes for a dollar each pair.  In addition, the company does offer other styles that are reasonably priced like their new Mokobo line which I have been eye-ing for the past couple of months.

At the moment Mohop is currently expanding to keep up with the demand for eco-friendly and vegan sandals. These shoes are completely manufactured in the United States and they are currently campaigning on Kickstarter.com. Here’s a link to their campaign as well as to purchase mohop shoes. The campaign ends on January 25.

Mohop Infinely Interchangeable Shoes

I hope this helps you decide if this is the sandal or shoe for you. I’m glad that I purchased them. They are really the only two pairs of sandals that I own and frequently use.

Hope you are having an amazing New Year’s Week. Take care.

Mad About Plaid: Plaid Shorts and Versatile Sandals

Hey all,
Hope you are having an amazing weekend. It has been hot and humid here in the islands, Summer weather is definitely making its presence felt.  My go to Summer weather outfit is a nice light tee, a fun pair of shorts and of course, a cute pair of summer sandals.

Finding a great pair sandals can be difficult. There are so many factors to consider; fit, comfort, quality and materials used.   About 4 years ago, I found these pair of BeSpoke Mohops Sandals. The cool thing about this pair of wedges, the top is interchangeable so you can literally have an infinite amount of sandals using a couple of yards of ribbon, your imagination and a bit of creativity.  On top of being a versatile sandal, its comfortable, vegan as well as eco friendly.  I have to admit, I have a lot of fun trying out different ways to tie these sandals.

What’s your perfect Summer Sandal?

Elle

P.S. I’m working with my new photographer. He’s learning a lot and so am I about taking pictures and working on this blog.

Hi Everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and a great start to the new week. I have been in such a long haitus but hopefully I can get into the rhythm of blogging again. This past month has been really busy for me
especially with summer approaching. There is so much I need to accomplish before summer arrives.

I have been searching for a great camera to photograph my outfits as well as a regular person to help me out. If you know a great camera, let me know.

Blogging in the past couple of months has taught me about the time and effort that is really put into sharing with the rest of the world. I greatly appreciate everyone who has supported, commented, followed, and read my blog posts. All of you help me in improving.

I am currently obsessed with interesting prints. The dress I am wearing above is printed with neutral birds amidst a navy background. I added an obi belt to break up the dress and pulled the outfit together with a favorite Aldo wedges and a comfortable cardigan.

Hope you like it and please comment.

XOXOXO,

Elle
