Shoe Review: Rothy’s Round Toe Flats

Hi Everyone,

I have not done a review in a long time. I wanted to do one on a shoe that I heard about last year through different social media avenues. I’ve seen it on Instagram and  Youtube and after much deliberation, I decided to purchase a pair. I have heard so many good things about these shoes that I was curious about them.  I also liked that fact that it takes old plastic bottles and up-cycles them into cute flats what’s not to love about saving the environment with cute shoes.

While shopping for my first pair, I perused the website. They had two styles and really cute fabric patterns. I like the selection of prints most of which are classics like leopard, geometric shapes and camouflage. Unfortunately, not all patterns are not available for extended sizes. Being a size 4 1/2 to 5 depending on the shoe, I was curious about the fit. The safest choice was  the round toe flats as opposed to the pointed toe flats which are always weird for me if the shoes are not true to size. I felt  the round toe flats would fit better for my small feet. I decided to choose a patterned fabric rather than a solid color flat since I already have several pairs of solid flats.

Details about the shoe:

Packaging: When it first arrived it came in a recycled cardboard box with a  blue ribbon pull for opening.  The flat was stuffed with tissue paper and a plastic shoe hanger. I felt that this was contradictory to the rest of the packaging as the company prides itself in saving the environment one plastic bottle as a time. The plastic shoes hanger did not seem to fit their company model. I was hoping for a biodegradable shoe hanger. The company encourages people to reuse the box for something else. I used it for my shoe polishing items. Still the plastic shoe hanger bothered me.  The box contained cards informing of shoe care and other information.

There is an easy return policy  which is 30 days for unworn shoes. I did not have that benefit as I tried the shoes on for a day at work.

img_7155

Fit: TTS. I’m a size 4.5 and the size 5 fit me well but because my feet are a half a size shorter the shoe rubbed against my ankle for the most the day when I wore it the first time. While, the shoe did not blister my ankles, my ankles were irritated and red at the end of the day. For the most part, the fabric of the shoe was comfortable but the stiffer fabric at the heel irritated me. If you are in between sizes, I would recommend to size down for a snug fit or size up and use a Shoe Sizer to fill the difference. I used the later option after taking a break from wearing the shoes for about two weeks.  I was convinced to try and make it work for me. (I will talk about shoe sizers later if you are interested let me know in the comments below or in a message.)   I used Shoe Sizers half a size filler in the front of the shoe. After this quick fix, I wore the shoe out more a few more times and  the sizer helped a lot with the heel rubbing. After that the shoe was a lot more comfortable.

Quality: The pair of shoes is of high quality woven knit plastic thread.  The woven upper is soft and stretchy and does not cut into your skin or create blistering. It stretches and moved with your feet which makes it comfortable.  The insole is soft and cushioned, washable and replaceable. After several uses, the insole will start to pill. Replacements for these are about $30. The outsole of the shoe is made of textured rubber. The shoe upper is sewn into the rubber sole for a stronger bond rather than glue so you do not need to worry about the sole and the upper splitting. The sole is flexible so the shoe fits like a glove and moved with you when you walk.

img_7158img_7160img_7159

Comfort:  After a six months of owning a pair of Rothy’s, it’s become part of my work shoe rotation. With the minor addition of a shoe sizer which made wearing the shoe a lot more comfortable. The cloth is very comfortable and the shoe is best if your feet are true to size. I believe a snug  fit makes the shoe more comfortable.

Price: $125.00-$145 is moderately expensive. The brand prides itself in being made with quality. You can use a coupon code for $20 off. I searched the internet for a coupon code. You can use this code if you plan on getting one.

Click Here to use My Rothy’s Code

I used someones to get $20 off the full price.  This is an investment shoe, it is comfortable for people who have feet that are whole sizes. If you’re a half size. I highly recommend using Shoe Sizers.

Is it a Shoe for Everyday?

For myself, currently, yes!  I do not foresee them making shoes smaller than a 5 or making half sized shoes.  Recently, they launched the loafer style and a few more colors and patterns in the extended sizes which was exciting.

I will purchase this shoe again in another color or style. Personally, I am looking at purchasing the pointed flat and the loafer. The pair I got is  staple in my work wardrobe that I reach for it on rainy days when I do not have to worry about getting water on my shoes.  I’m really like the fact that I can give it a quick wash in the washing machine if it gets dirty. Additionally, I foresee me packing for travel.  Rothy’s got something here with their shoes. I foresee the brand creating more options for women and even making a men’s line in the future.

I hope this helps you decide if this is the shoe for you. If you are deciding to purchase this for yourself or give it to someone it’s great gift to give yourself or someone who loves style and comfortable shoes.

Take care and happy shoe shopping.

XOXO,

Elle

Review: Tieks by Gavrieli‎

Hi Everyone,

I have not done a review in a long time and I’ve been wanting to do a review on this particular pair of shoes for a while. Tieks Ballet Flats has been the talk of the shoe world. Oprah talked about it on her show, several bloggers have talked about it, and major bloggers wear them on their blog. I was curious so I bought my first pair about two years ago after reading about them and studying their website. I wanted to see what the hype was all about and if it really lived up to its reputation as a very comfortable and portable pair of shoes.

tieks2

While shopping for my first pair, I thought more about color, material, and pattern. I wanted a color that would go well with the rest of my wardrobe but I really did not want to pick up the basic black. When you first login to the Tieks website you find several categories: Featured, Prints, Patents, Classics, and The Vegan Collection. Figuring out which category to pick from took me a while.  I eventually choose a pair from the Classic Collection. I debated over a neutral pair versus a colored flat. I eventually choose the Cardinal Red.

Details about the shoe:

Packaging: When it first arrived it came in a Tiek Blue Box wrapped with an elasticize band and a flower matching the shoe in the box. The packaging was pretty and instantly put a smile on my face. I felt like I was opening a present for my birthday. After opening the box the shoe comes folded with  drawstring bag for packing and storing (not pictured). In all honesty, I’ve only used this bag maybe twice when I needed to pack them for travel. The box also contains a care guide, a card for sharing Tieks on Instagram, a folded Tieks tote, and a personal note to you, the buyer.

Fit: TTS. I’m a size 4.5 and the size 5 fit me well without slipping in the heel area despite my narrow heel. If you are inbetween sizes, the recommendation is to size up. If after ordering Tieks you are not happy with the sizing, there is an easy return policy and customer service is helpful in helping you find the right size for you.

tieks2

Quality: The pair of shoes is of high quality leather. It has a full grain leather insole, leather suede lining and the upper is  made of Italian leather. The leather upper is soft and supple and does not cut into your skin or create blistering.  The leather insole eventually darkens over time because of the oils in your skin. If this is not something you like you can prevent the discoloration with some insoles or ballet flat socks. I did not mind it.  It shows that I wear them often. I usually wiped them down with baby wipes and a cotton cloth. The outsole of the shoe is made of leather but attached to it is a rubber split sole that minimally scratches over time and wear. There is cushioning throughout the insole of the shoe which provided added comfort when worn and a cushion heel for days when you are on your feet and walking. I am constantly on my feet at work. The inside of the shoe does not have lining so the leather is raw except for the throat of the shoe where there is fabric lining. This is to lessen the wear of the shoe where your toes meet the leather. While this fabric is is unbroken the leather at the top of the throat will remain in good condition. Once this fabric breaks the leather will start to wear.

Comfort: After two years of owning my very first pair of shoes from Tieks, I would say it is extremely comfortable. It feel like your walking on pillows. I have never gotten any pain or blistering from wearing them. It has my been time and again my go to pair of flats. In an average week I wear then about 3 to 4 times.

tieks6a

Price: $175.00-$295 is expensive but if you calculate price per wear and comfort I believe it is worth every penny. Tieks never go on sale and it is truly an investment shoe.

Is it a Shoe for Everyday?

Yes! It is the one pair of flats I will purchase again and again for the sheer fact that it lives up to the quality of the shoe and comfort and I’m saying that after two years of wearing them three to four times a week and traveling. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves flats and would like a pair that’s worth every penny.

I hope this helps you decide if this is the shoe for you. If you are deciding to purchase this for yourself or give it to someone it’s great gift to give yourself or someone who loves style and comfortable shoes.

Hope you are having an amazing weekend and that you chose Tieks as a gift, now or later. Take care and happy shoe shopping.

Secrets to Shopping for Christian Louboutin and Other Luxury Shoes

Michelle_SandIsland-23

I guess it’s about time I share my methods in acquiring the shoes that I have in my shoe collection. I’ve been an avid shoe collector since high school and I’m going to be candid with you about the things that I have learn throughout the years. I am one of those people that never shop outside of my means. Let’s keep this real, I do not make a ton of money to blog, the reality is this blog has been a work in progress and the market is flooded with people who have their own style and want to share it with the world. I have a REAL career and I have an affinity to wearing expensive shoes.  I know that this blog is called A Pair of Shoes for Everyday. I have a lot of shoes but I do not have a pair for every day of the year nor do I have room for them. The blog name alludes to the fact that I have pairs of shoes that are used a lot in my wardrobe and therefore they are worth the investment I put into them.

So how exactly do I go about purchasing these shoes. I make a shoe list of my favorite shoes styles on the runway that season. Next, I go through my shoe wardrobe first to find shoes that I already fit current trends.  I look for styles that will last a few seasons, have very classic silhouettes and fit my personal style for example spikes and industrial details.

I  visit stores and boutiques that carry the shoes that are on my wish list. I try on a few styles, checking for fit, noting the pitch, and the comfort of the shoe. This is important because you have to be relatively comfortable in the shoes that you are in. Some pairs of shoes no matter how sexy or gorgeous they maybe on other people may not be the pair for you.  Then the waiting game begins.

Shoe seasons are quarterly and shoe sales are bi-annual. Sales tend to be from June to August and from November to December. It’s important to get to know associates at the boutiques in your area and establish a rapport with them. These associates will give you a heads up on what styles will go on sale at the end of the season and when special events happen in store. Retailers like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and other luxury retail stores have the tendency to have sales during this time. And stores tend to drop prices the later you go, always fight the need to purchase at the beginning of the sale as prices drop often. If you wait long enough and if the shoe is still there, prices will drop to a price point that is easier on the pocketbook. I have found several pairs of shoes what went well over a $1000 and bought them for a fifth of that price but you have to be willing to wait it out.

Sometimes, I check online discount websites: The Outnet, Barney’s Warehouse, Off Saks 5th Avenue, etc. I also scour Ebay and consignment shops (The Real Real, Yoogi’s Closet, etc.)  on the styles that I would like to add to my collection. Always ask the seller questions and read up on the shoe brands and authenticity. There are great people out there who have created resources that you can use to figure out authenticity or ask about authenticity. I personally use the Purse Blog Purse Forum . When in doubt always find a second opinion, there are authentication places out there that can help you authenticate a shoe for a small fee. The great thing about shopping with consignment shops, they have an authenticity expert in house that check the items they sell.  silklace4a

On top of researching and doing some ground work, I also have a separate account for shoe purchases. The real goal is to get the shoe you want for a price that is reasonable for your budget. I always set a price point for shoes that I want to purchase. Truthfully,  I’ve have only bought one pair of designer shoes full price and they were for my wedding day. I do not shop for shoes impulsively, it’s too big of an investment and designer shoes will always go on sale or can always be found for less than market value if your are willing to wait.

Thanks so much for making it through this long blog post. I wanted to make sure I gave you enough tips on how to shop for luxury shoes. If you have any questions or additional tips please feel free to comment and let me know.

XOXO,

Michelle

Warm and Cozy Plaid and Hunter Boots

plaidandhunter2.jpeg

Hello Everyone,

Before the temperatures dipped and the snow started to fall full force, we got a chance to take some pictures outside. I’m loving the fact that I can layer more here than back in Hawaii. I’m loving the winter weather. I know it’s very cold but I can’t help but enjoy getting cozy, drinking some hot chocolate, keeping warm, and spending time with family and friends. There is something so beautiful about snow covered landscapes. I love the way the snow blankets the land like it’s preparing a big surprise for spring. I find it amazingly gorgeous.

I don’t know what it is about winter weather but plaid flannels  come to mind. It’s warm and cozy and so comfortable. I decided to pair this shirt with corduroy pants, heated socks and my Hunter boots. They definitely kept me warm outside while I slushed around in the grass.

Layered Sparkle and Stripes

image

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are having an great Wednesday.

image

This past week, we traveled up North to Michigan to spend time with family and friends. When we arrived, there was little snow on the ground and the air was chilly. I decided to play with layering for colder weather since I do not really have an opportunity to do that here in Hawaii. The focal piece of this outfit is definitely this striped skirt I purchased last year. It proved to be a great piece that’s simple and dressy. I continued the striped theme onto the turtle neck and layered a pull over on top to bring it all together. I added thick knit stockings to keep my legs warm from the chill and warmed up with my coat. I definitely do not know if I could get use to the cold but I love to layer.

Hope you have an great day. Thanks for reading. Let me know what you think.

An Update on the 2013 Wish List: Four Wishes Down, 5 More To Go

Halfmoonsandslices3

IMG_7043

Hi All,

Hope you are having an amazing week. Today, I thought I’d let you know the status of my 2013 Wishlist that I posted earlier last year. So here’s the update.

In January of last year, I got a Nordstrom gift card so I spent it on a Tory Burch “Reva” flats. I got my first one in the Gold Emblem and Napa leather, last month, I purchase my second with the pebbled leather embossing. So far I have been very happy with the “Reva” flats. They are extremely comfortable and my go to pair of black flats. They go with almost everything in my closet.

Stella and Dot discontinued the Sierra Bib earlier this year so I perused eBay looking for the necklace. I found it and won the bid. I got it for lower than it’s retail price and it came in it’s original packaging. It was definitely an AMAZING find.

Every March, Ala Moana Center, one of the biggest outside malls in Hawaii has an event called Shop A Le’a, which happens every Spring. I was able to purchase the Hamilton with gold hardware from the Michael Kors Boutique who participated in the event. It was great to get a discount on an item that never goes on sale. Again, it was a great find, for a great price.

Last but not the least, I have been swooning over the Very Prive Christian Louboutin pumps for about two years. It was on my wishlist for a long time. Last month, a designer cosignment and resale store in New York received one in my size. I emailed them about the item and they sent me additional pictures. I asked the ladies of the Purse Forum to help me authenticate the pair and the rest is history. I purchased the shoes for less than half of the cost of the shoe. Very doable on my budget.

Out of the nine items, I purchased the 4 either on sale, with a gift card, or consignment. Many of the luxury items I purchase, I never pay full price. Full price is definitely not in my budget. Of the five items I did not purchase (Stuart Weitzman 5050, Prada Flower Applique Mary Jane, Stella and Dot Pegasus Necklace, Balenciaga City Handbag, and the Balenciaga Glove Sandals) the hardest to obtain is the Prada Flower Applique Mary Janes which are no longer in season and very hard to find. I will have to keep searching for them. The most expensive and will not be purchased for a long time is the Balenciaga City Handbag. I am still in search for a Pegasus Necklace from Stella and Dot that is within the price point I would like to obtain it. As for the Stuart Weitzman 5050, I have tried it on several times, in a couple of different sizes. I am still debating over purchasing it since it’s harder to fit on bigger calves. In addition, I would love to obtain the Glove sandal from Balenciaga but I think I can still wait for the right color to come along.

Thank you again for reading. I’m planning to write a different post about bargain shopping for luxury items. Let me know what you would like me to cover.

Orange You Glad It’s Almost Summer: Zara Colorblocked Ankle Strap Heels

Orange Color Block Zara Sandals

IMG_3639Hello All,

Hope you are having an amazing day! I picked up these Zara heels in the beginning of Spring when they first came out on the Zara website. I often have the issue of finding my size going out of stock so when I see my size and  if I really like the pair of shoes I find the need to purchase it as soon as possible. My shoe size at Zara is hard to come by, I have to admit, they make a lot of cute shoes none of which are in my size. I’m finding that a lot of brands rarely carry size 5 shoes. A lot of shoes start at either size 5.5 an 6. For women with smaller feet, it is welcomed when a brand decides to create petite feet friendly shoes. I have found throughout the years that higher end brands carry smaller sizes, the only down side to that is paying the price of the shoe.

Walking on Sunshine

20130612-201925.jpg
I have been obsessing over these the past couple of months after seeing them worn by the owner of Homecoming Honolulu. So naturally when they came in last week, trying them on was on my “to do list.” After stopping to pick up a pair of shoes from my cobbler, I walked up the street to Homecoming Honolulu to try these on. I was pleasantly surprised that they fit me perfectly. I can’t wait to wear these out and do a shoe review after wearing them out a couple of times. They remind me of sunshiny weather and bright summer flowers when I look down on my feet. Such a perfect summer shoe.

Rain Booty-full

rainboots1 rainboots2 rainboots8 rainboots7
Hello all,
I hope you are having a wonderful week. The weather is Hawaii is either sunny or rainy. The humidity is aiding in this bipolar weather that we have been having. I started my Tuesday with a flash flood warning and a downpour of rain. It was a perfect day to bring out these cuties I picked up last month on eBay. I appreciate plain color rain boots but I also love prints. I fell in love with the colorful cartoon newsprint look of these boots that came at a very good price. They are my first pair of rain boots as I have never thought about getting a pair until this year. Although, I think rain boots would have been perfect when we had rain of biblical proportions several years ago. I am, however, still on the look out for a classic pair. Hope you are having a good Tuesday. Know of any great rain boots, please let me know and comment below.

Review: Jeffrey Campbell “Encase”

Jeffrey Campbell Encase 2Hi All,

I hope you are having an amazing Sunday afternoon. I’ve been enjoying today with time spent with my family and friends. I am definitely looking forward to Summer and working on this blog more extensively. I have so many plans that I cannot wait to share with you.

I’ve been a little relaxed with this blog. I’m trying my best to find time to work on blog posts as well as keep up with the pace of my day job. I’m deciding to do more reviews on different pairs of shoes that are added to my collection. Hopefully, I can do one or two every month. Let me know if you have any suggestions. I would love to hear from you.

I fell in love with this pair a few months ago while looking through my feed on Instagram. I have recently become a Jeffrey Campbell shoes fanatic and so far I have been happy with every purchase. After months and months of waiting to find these shoes in my size. I finally found them last month at Nordstrom. They came in two different color combinations, black with white sole and heel and this one, silver with natural sole and heel. I opted the Silver version of this shoe as it works better for my wardrobe. I adore the fact that the silver is a little muted and that it has a vintage feel to the overall look of the shoe.

Details about the shoe:

Shoe Details: Shoe comes in two color combinations, black with white heel and sole and silver with natural heel and sole. 3 inch thick heel and zipper back allows to easily put on and take off the shoe. The strappy design is uncomplicated and classic and works with different outfits.

Packaging: The shoe comes in a box with the signature Jeffrey Campbell design. The shoe was in bed of tissue paper, individual sides of the shoe are packed in their own dust bags.

Fit: The Shoes fits  true to size.

Quality: The shoe is made of silver dyed leather with leather lining.

Comfort: So far the shoes is comfortable to wear. The pitch of the leather stacked heel is about 3 inches but because of the thickness of the heel, the shoe is comfortable to walk in and does not put a strain on your arch. I have worn the shoe at work and on a dinner with friends and both times they strappy design did not blister or hurt my feet.

Price: $169.95  (But prices may vary depending on the establishment.) This particular pair was obtained from Nordstrom.

So far, I have been happy with this purchase. I have also worked it into my wardrobe easily. If you have any questions, feel free to comment or email me. I hope this helps you decide if this is the shoe for you. Have a wonderful Sunday. Take care.

XOXO,

Elle
