New Year, New Beginning

Happy New Year!

I’m a little late on this New Year’s post but better late than never. Life has been very busy the last couple of months and I cannot thank you enough for your patience. The blog unfortunately had to take a back seat to everything else that was happening; graduate school, work, and wedding planning.

With every new year, there is a promise of new beginnings and a renewed outlook on life. I cannot wait for what is in store for 2016 and I hope you join me in this journey.

Nothing says celebration like a little bit of red, bling, and some fringe to liven things up.

Cheers to you as we start the year, here’s to a wonderful new year ahead and as always, thanks for stopping by.

Window Pane Gingham and Saturday Shoes

I have a slight love affair with gingham and plaid. I love the criss crossing patterns of colors and the unexpected color combinations that result from the interwoven threads.

A few months ago, I found this window pane white gingham blouse. It does not have color but I like the unexpected and subtle sheer details of the blouse. It lends itself to other outfit pairings. It’s such a great blouse to dress up or down.

I personally want to play with a pop of color for a layer underneath or to dress down the look with a pair of boyfriend jeans but that will be for another day. Today, I paired it with my midi box pleated skirt and a pair of my favorite Kate Spade Saturday Sandals.

For this particular outfit, I wanted to play with the ever so classic black and white combination. I added a muted black jeweled rope necklace and carried over the criss cross lines of the blouse to my favorite quilted bag.

Have a great Saturday and Thank you again for reading.

Sunday Brunch: Oxblood Skirt and Linked Details

I hope you are having an amazing Sunday spent with your love ones. We spent a part of  Sunday at brunch in Downtown Honolulu. It was such beautiful warm day to be out.

I have been searching for a neoprene skirt for a very long time and recently found this front pleated a-line skirt that I absolutely adore. Neoprene can sometimes look very bulky depending on the way the fabric is cut because it does not drape and tends to sustain a stiffer shape.  I was excited to find this skirt and welcomed it’s simple silhouette.

I paired the skirt with a striped shirt and finished the outfit with my favorite quilted clutch, a pair of my favorite oxblood pumps and some chain linked accessories.

How was your Sunday? Let me know. Take care and thanks again for reading.

Northward: Packing for Winter Weather

Hello Everyone,

These pictures were taken a couple of days before we got back home from Michigan. The snow lightly covered the area where we stayed.

I got a chance to test out my Hunter Rain Boots in the snow.

I had hoped to do this post closer to my trip to Michigan but since it’s snowing heavy back east, I figured it would be cool to do a packing post. It’s rare, I visit the continental U.S during the winter and this time around I decided to just take carry-on luggage given that flights usually get moved, delayed, and cancelled. Also, I really did not want to lose luggage going to and from my destination.

The trip was about a week and a half to Northern Michigan where the temperatures get really low. We checked weather reports up until the day we left, it was to make sure that we were packed accordingly.

This is what I packed in my carry-on.

L to R:  top row: plaid shirt, j. crew. red pullover, forever 21. chambray button down, j. crew. middle and bottom rows: thermal long sleeve t-shirts, old navy. sweat shirt, old navy. cable knit sweater, old navy.

L to R:  top row: skirt, j. crew. cordoroy jeans, j brand jeans. lace shoulders dress, h and m. middle row: wool skirt, j. crew. quilted leather clutch, found at t.j. maxx. flower crystal necklace, leslie danzis. bottom rows: skinny belts in red and leopard, ann taylor. jeans, old navy. leather belt, american eagle.  necklace, elizabeth stone jewelry, pearl and pyramid bangles, j. crew.

L to R:  cowl neck sweater, old navy. chevron scarf, eden in love. coat, ross.

I kept most of my pieces neutral with lots of browns, grays, and beige. I also added some color to my wardrobe with pops of red. I brought three pairs of shoes; a regular pair of lace up boots (they are my go to Dr. Marten’s knee high boots),  a pair of strappy pumps (my favorite Christian Louboutin shoes as seen in my New Year’s post)  and a the Hunter boots that I decided to test out in the snow. They definitely kept my toes warm with heated socks. I found the heated socks work better than the regular hunter socks (thanks to my boyfriend’s dad, who got them for me.) I did not picture that pairs of shoes here because I use them often on this blog.

I hope that I am able to do a styling post for the pieces that I brought in a future post. I have to admit, the outfits worked out better than I expected and they managed to keep me warm. Not bad for a newbie in winter weather.

I hope you are having a great start of your week. Take care and let me know you think.

Layers of Lace

Lace in Downtown Lace in Downtown Lace in Downtown Lace in Downtown Lace in Downtown

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are having an amazing Wednesday. I’m playing with lace today. The key to layering lace prints is similar to that of layering patterns. I gravitate towards lace pieces that have similar patterns and I keep both lace pieces neutral. Because lace is delicate, I accessorize with multiple strands of pearls and a bit of sparkle. This outfit is perfect for brunch or a dinner with the family.

Thank you again for reading.

Summer Lace & Retro Pearls

Summer Lace

Hey Everyone,

Nothing reminds me of summer more than cream and lace. When I first saw this blouse from J. Crew, I absolutely adored the puffy lace sleeves and the airy cotton bodice,  perfect for the warm summer days and nights in Hawaii. I foresee this blouse becoming a definite summer wardrobe staple. I cannot wait to pair it with shorts for a more casual look or dress it up a bit with a high waist pencil skirt.

I added retro inspired pieces like the pearl and pyramid bangles and the pearl leaf necklace to dress it up a bit. I love the creamy look of the gold paired with the pearls in each of these pieces,  the gold is subtle and not overpowering so it dresses up this casual outfit.

Ethnic Wrap: Geometric Prints and Coated Demin

Hello All, Hope you had an amazing weekend filled with friends and family and enjoying each others company. I picked up this open cardigan back in December and I fell in love with the print from the moment I saw it. I am trying to find excuses to use it whenever the weather gets cooler in Hawaii. I just love the way the beige bolds the black pattern.

How do you incoporate patterns into your wardrobe? Let me know.

Button Downs and Interesting Prints

I love button down shirts because they are so versatile for any wardrobe. Besides the classic colors, I like ones that have interesting prints to spice up the the wardrobe. They can be worn with skirts, slacks, or a pair of jeans, and even a pair if shorts.

The particular button down shirt in this outfit has the rich colors that are popular in the fall: reds, beiges, oranges, and touches of teal.
