Lighthouses, Fashion, and Pinstripes

pinstripes5pinstripesI saw this lighthouse on one of the photos a friend of mine shot and instantly fell in love. There is something so serene and peaceful about lighthouses.  On our last trip to New Hampshire, one of the things that I wanted to cross off my Bucket List was to see a lighthouse in Maine. The really cool thing about lighthouses is that in daylight, at night  and in hazy fog, it beckons people home and leads their way.

Fashion has been a beacon for me throughout the years. It is the one constant that inspires me to keep dreaming but at the same time it keeps me grounded on the idea that change is inevitable and that to succeed in the business of Fashion you have to be willing to stand your ground when it comes to style and go with the flow when it comes to trends.

pinstripes3Pinstripes have been a staple for fashion since 1890s with it’s start in boating clothing. It then made its way into Baseball uniforms in 1907 and then into suiting material in the 1920’s with the iconic Zoot suits. Pinstripes are a style that has been tested by time and trends. This fall, the runways celebrate this iconic print in wide legged suiting silhouettes. I translated this style with a shirt dress that I recently picked up.

Summer Lace & Retro Pearls

Summer Lace

Hey Everyone,

Nothing reminds me of summer more than cream and lace. When I first saw this blouse from J. Crew, I absolutely adored the puffy lace sleeves and the airy cotton bodice,  perfect for the warm summer days and nights in Hawaii. I foresee this blouse becoming a definite summer wardrobe staple. I cannot wait to pair it with shorts for a more casual look or dress it up a bit with a high waist pencil skirt.

I added retro inspired pieces like the pearl and pyramid bangles and the pearl leaf necklace to dress it up a bit. I love the creamy look of the gold paired with the pearls in each of these pieces,  the gold is subtle and not overpowering so it dresses up this casual outfit.

An Update on the 2013 Wish List: Four Wishes Down, 5 More To Go

Hi All,

Hope you are having an amazing week. Today, I thought I’d let you know the status of my 2013 Wishlist that I posted earlier last year. So here’s the update.

In January of last year, I got a Nordstrom gift card so I spent it on a Tory Burch “Reva” flats. I got my first one in the Gold Emblem and Napa leather, last month, I purchase my second with the pebbled leather embossing. So far I have been very happy with the “Reva” flats. They are extremely comfortable and my go to pair of black flats. They go with almost everything in my closet.

Stella and Dot discontinued the Sierra Bib earlier this year so I perused eBay looking for the necklace. I found it and won the bid. I got it for lower than it’s retail price and it came in it’s original packaging. It was definitely an AMAZING find.

Every March, Ala Moana Center, one of the biggest outside malls in Hawaii has an event called Shop A Le’a, which happens every Spring. I was able to purchase the Hamilton with gold hardware from the Michael Kors Boutique who participated in the event. It was great to get a discount on an item that never goes on sale. Again, it was a great find, for a great price.

Last but not the least, I have been swooning over the Very Prive Christian Louboutin pumps for about two years. It was on my wishlist for a long time. Last month, a designer cosignment and resale store in New York received one in my size. I emailed them about the item and they sent me additional pictures. I asked the ladies of the Purse Forum to help me authenticate the pair and the rest is history. I purchased the shoes for less than half of the cost of the shoe. Very doable on my budget.

Out of the nine items, I purchased the 4 either on sale, with a gift card, or consignment. Many of the luxury items I purchase, I never pay full price. Full price is definitely not in my budget. Of the five items I did not purchase (Stuart Weitzman 5050, Prada Flower Applique Mary Jane, Stella and Dot Pegasus Necklace, Balenciaga City Handbag, and the Balenciaga Glove Sandals) the hardest to obtain is the Prada Flower Applique Mary Janes which are no longer in season and very hard to find. I will have to keep searching for them. The most expensive and will not be purchased for a long time is the Balenciaga City Handbag. I am still in search for a Pegasus Necklace from Stella and Dot that is within the price point I would like to obtain it. As for the Stuart Weitzman 5050, I have tried it on several times, in a couple of different sizes. I am still debating over purchasing it since it’s harder to fit on bigger calves. In addition, I would love to obtain the Glove sandal from Balenciaga but I think I can still wait for the right color to come along.

Thank you again for reading. I’m planning to write a different post about bargain shopping for luxury items. Let me know what you would like me to cover.

Visiting Salem: Light Layers

Since we’re in New England and it’s October, we decided to stop into Salem for a day. It was an amazing day taking the different places in town. We stopped in the Salem Witch Museum and learned about the history of the Salem Witch Trials, walked around Salem Commons, stopped and took in the beauty of the House of Seven Gables, the inspiration of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book by the same name and even found a Waikiki Beach in Salem.

The weather was sunny but definitely more chilly than back home. I decided to just throw on my utility vest to keep me warm for the day since it’s in the mid 60’s here.

How do you layer in the fall? Let me know and share your tips.

Dots of Prosperity and Joy

Hello all,

Happy Aloha Friday everyone! I love saying that. It has a ring to it that makes you enjoy the weekend just a tad bit more. As a kid, I enjoyed my summers away from school spending time at friends houses, having sleepovers, and enjoying the beach on sunnier days. I remember going to this place, Sand Island, and playing on the rocks with my brother whenever my family had a beach day.  Ashley, my photographer, and I had fun taking this shoot on the rocks with the backdrop of Downtown Honolulu. I love the juxtaposition of the relaxing beach atmosphere to the concrete jungle. I enjoyed skipping on the rocks, can you tell?

In my culture, wearing polka dots on New Years Eve suggests that the coming year will be full of wealth, joy, and prosperity  and since Summer for me marks the ending of a year and the beginning of a new one, I decided to wear polka dots to celebrate a more amazing year for my career, this blog, as well as other plans I have in store.

Hope you are Having a Great Friday! I am about to start mine. Follow my blog or check me out on Instagram at ellelovesshoes.

Review: Tory Burch Reva Flats

Hi All,

Hope you are having an amazing Saturday. I’m trying to get things done on my list and as promised here is my review of the Tory Burch Reva Flats that I picked up on Sunday.

This week, I couldn’t seem to get enough of how comfortable these flats felt on my feet. I have read many many reviews on them and everyone I have read has spoken about it. This year, I put in on my wishlist of items I wanted to add to my closet. Here is my take on the Reva Flats.

I own three pairs of flats in my collection of shoes. Two are from Jeffrey Campbell and this pair of black Reva Flats from Tory Burch.   I initially wanted a pair that had a subdued black emblem but the gold emblem detail stood out to me. I tried several pairs before settling on getting this pair and after a week owning them, I have already worn them several times at work.

I love the way the leather feels on my feet. It is supple and soft and hugs my feet.

Details about the shoe:

Packaging: The shoe comes in a box with the signature Tory Burch design.  The shoe was in bed of tissue paper. It does not come with a dust bag.

Fit:  TTS. I usually fit shoes from sizes 4 to 6 depends on the cut and make of the shoe, for this particular shoe I purchased a size 5 because I felt the 4.5  feel to snug for my toes in the toe box area. The heel has elastic gathering which I am happy about because it stays on my narrow heel. So far, I’m very happy with the fit of the shoe.

Quality: The shoe is made of soft nappa leather with the signature Tory Burch emblem for ornamentation in the front of the shoe. The lining for this shoe is leather and the insole has padding that hugs your feet at every step. The craftsmanship looks amazing.

Comfort: After a week for wear,  the shoe has not given me blisters or cuts. The shoes is extremely comfortable.

Price: $225.00 (But prices may vary depending on the establishment)

I hope this helps you decide if this is the shoe for you. I’m glad that I purchased them.

Hope you are having an amazing Saturday. Take care.
